Welcome to the forum. Follow the instructions in this link:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=4015
Post the three logs at the end of the instructions in this same topic. I will respond as soon as possible after that to see if there is more to do.

Spybot: Follow the directions to save the log but do not post it unless a helper asks for it.

Thanks...pskelley

Thanks for returning your information. It looks like SmitfraudFix did it's job. Make sure you clean out the ewido quarantine folder after a couple of days.

Just a little more junk to remove, here is a tutorial for the cleaning tool I wil be using:
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=1925

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\windows\system32\blank.htm
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\windows\system32\blank.htm

netster <<< adware

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a last HJT log. Let me have some feedback this time.

Thanks...Phil

Thanks Phil...I'll do this when I get home tonight.

Do you want the HJT log from immediately after I run the initial clean with HJT, or do you want one from after I run ATF cleaner?

Thanks,

Dan

Follow the instructions in the posted order Dan. HJT log just before the feedback:laugh:

Feedback

Thanks a ton!

I don't appear to have any of the malware anymore.

Do you know what Pluck is? Do I need that?

Which of all the apps I've got should I keep and which should I delete/unistall to protect going forward while also cleaning up to avoid slower performance (things seem a bit slower now, especially at startup): Panda, XoftspySE, RegCure, Ewido, SmitFraud,ATF Cleaner, HijackThis, Norton, Spybot S&D?

As part of this process I'm also now getting notifications that my Windows XP installation is not genuine. It used to be, but I've had the hard drive replaced twice on the PC. So I guess the shop re-installed a pirated copy. So I get to deal with that now too.

Anyway...thanks again and I will definitely be donating to you guys. It's nice to know there are volunteers like you guys out there fighting the scumbags.

Let's start with Pluck: http://www.pluck.com/index.html It does not look like malware. Open the program and see what it is. If you did not put it there and want it gone, do this.

1) Add Remove Programs and uninstall it if there: Pluck
2) Make sure hidden files and folders are showing then,
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O9 - Extra button: Pluck - {053017A8-53F7-4EA3-AA38-A4CCAAF1F9E7} - C:\Program Files\Pluck Corporation\Pluck\PluckExplorerBar.dll
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Pluck - {053017A8-53F7-4EA3-AA38-A4CCAAF1F9E7} - C:\Program Files\Pluck Corporation\Pluck\PluckExplorerBar.dll
O18 - Protocol: pluck - {A5DD5FEC-8239-4A12-B791-4B6067F85CCC} - C:\Program Files\Pluck Corporation\Pluck\PluckExplorerBar.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

C:\Program Files\Pluck Corporation\ <<< delete that folderYou may have to do it in safe mode if there was no uninstaller in Add Remove.

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam

The programs you asked about, I think you should:
RegCure: Not familiar with it, you call it, if it works for you keep it.
ewido: free updates and scans after the trial. As I said above, turn it off (disable) so it is not running if you have the disk space. Good tool.
ATF-Cleaner: I would keep it, uses no resources and does a great job. Here is a tutorial for it:
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=1925
HJT: Keep http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html
Norton: No opinion or knowledge of the product.
Spybot: Keep

Now to the hard part, you need to be aware that Microsoft has placed a tool called WGA: Windows Genuine Advantage Notiftication on your computer via Critical Downloads and much is going on with this. The tool is telling folks that there copy is not valid in error. Here is some information:
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-16,GGLG:en&q=WgaTray%2Eexe
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/ww/windows/default.mspx
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-16,GGLG:en&q=how+to+validate+windows

My suggestion is that you first contact the shop and ask them, if they did what you said it is illegal and I would be about contacting my attorney if they don't make it good. It is very likely that Microsoft is as fault but I would clear that issue with the shop first, because once you contact Microsoft, you are going to know for sure if the copy is pirated.
Here are a few toll free numbers I have: Validation and Licensing team: (800) 426-9400
Product ID Key, then call 18009364900
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx
Once you know you have a valid copy, contact Microsoft and they will tell you what to do to fix the problem.

Safe surfing...tashi:) will close the topic in a day or so.
