Good morning,
my computer crashes during the scan. I tried both the manual scan and scheduled scan is with the boot.
The system is XP and the program is updated to the latest definition.
Why this happens?
Let me know as soon as possible.
Thank you.

Hello,
Which version of Spybot do you run?
What exactly do you mean with crashing?
Does the pc shut down?
Does it freeze?
Do you get any error message?
Please report your problem a little more detailed.
Thanks.
Best regards

Hello,
Spybot - Search & Destroy is quite CPU intensive. It is possible that the CPU overheating and the system is shutting down to protect the processor. Make sure that the fans are running and that dust is cleared from any ventilation ports in the case.
The problem can happen in both desktops and laptops, although the problem is more prevalent in laptops.
If you have a laptop with one of the one of the following processors:
- Mobile Pentium III-M
- Mobile Pentium 4-M
- Mobile Pentium 4
- Mobile Pentium M / Centrino
- Mobile AMD
Take a look at following suggestion by 100mill:
Notebook CPU running hot during Spybot - Search & Destroy scan (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=1816)
If you have a desktop consider opening the case and checking to make sure the CPU heat sink is not too dusty.
Doubt that this can be a problem, read the following threads:
Spybot - Search & Destroy causes shut down (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=2163) or PC crashes while Spybot - Search & Destroy is running (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=2230)

I'm having a similar problem. I had to remove a nasty piece of malware (System Check) last week, and ever since then, I've haven't been able to download all the updates. I keep getting an error message with the letters PK; right after this, I get some message from Microsoft that an error occurred and MS had to shut the program down.
My system: XP; Spybot version 1.6 IIRC
I've also set SP to scan my PC every time I boot up--how can I change that to scan at a set time? :slap:

Hello,
Why do you run a Release Candidate when there is a stable version?
Please uninstall the older version of Spybot - Search & Destroy before installing the new version.
In order to uninstall Spybot-S&D, please consider the following link (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/uninstall.html).
Then download the new version of Spybot - Search & Destroy.
You will find links to several download locations (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html) on our website.
Best regards
