I have run spybot and removed this several times, but it must have some sort of re-install program. I'd appreciate getting rid of it. It's really bogging my machine. I hope I read all the instructions correctly. Here is my log.

Hello John and welcome to the forum. The issues you describe are know and this link will provide the facts you need.
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/46.html
You are running HJT from a folder called SPYKILLERS and that is fine. HJT needs a dedicated folder to store logs, backups in. If you need that folder for anything else, please make one for HJT.
Having said that, you have an item in your HJT log that concerns me:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Yn] C:\documents and settings\john whiteker\local settings\temp\Yn.exe
Here is the Google on it:
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-16,GGLG:en&q=Yn and as you can see, trojan worm jumps right out at you. To be safe, do you know what this is? If not, use one or more of these free online scans to find out and let me know:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html
I am going to schedule removal, and remove some other junk for you, and if you know the item, or it proves not to be malware, then pass over it in the instructions...thanks.
How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust...ch/search.html
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C9C9130F-F7C3-AA30-9C08-A8C86C8A2AC9} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\kzhe.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Yn] C:\documents and settings\john whiteker\local settings\temp\Yn.exe
Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:
C:\documents and settings\john whiteker\local settings\temp\Yn.exe <<< delete that file
Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Restart the computer and post a new HJT log and some feedback.
Thanks...pskelley

Please do not code or quote me. use the "Post Reply" button, copy and paste the logs like you started. Use standard black, red is hard for me to look at. Post only the logs I ask for to keep from cluttering the topic. Thanks.
Seems you did everything but what I requested. This item is on your computer! Do you know what it is? If not then click these links and scan the file to make sure it is bad:
File >>> C:\documents and settings\john whiteker\local settings\temp\Yn.exe
Use the file scanner in two or more of these free online scan:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html
Post the information for me and if it is bad, follow these directions this time:
C:\documents and settings\john whiteker\local settings\temp\Yn.exe <<< delete that file (delete everything in that temp folder but NOT the folder)
Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Restart the computer and post a new HJT log and some feedback
Please take the time to read and understand the instructions.
Thanks

pskelley,
I'm very sorry I misunderstood you and posted in a way that upset you. I just thought it would make it easier for you to see what I'd done.
Okay, I submitted the yn.exe file to all three of the sites.
jotti.org said this: The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file.
kaspersky would not even acknowledge that I submitted it.
virustotal said it wasn't a virus and had this additional info.
Aditional Information
File size: 0 bytes
MD5: d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e
SHA1: da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709
Then I followed your instructions on making files and folders visible.
I downloaded ATF and saved it to my desktop.
Then I opened HJT and did a sys. scan only. The line you wanted me to remove wasn't there. I think we got it removed last night.
I explored and that yn.exe file is not in my temp folder or is still not showing up. I did as you said and manually deleted everything in the temp folder, but not the folder itself. The only file it wouldn't let me delete was: t1155312506.dll
*There was one file called ycomp.exe that I also deleted. I don't know if it's related to the yn.exe or not, but it's now deleted.
I then ran the ATF Cleaner and did as you said. Now I'm going to restart and run and post my HJT log for you.
I really do appreciate all the help. I'm sorry that I didn't make this easy.

Hey, don't worry about it:) we have to maintain some consistancy or things will go haywire, I need to see a new HJT log to see where we are. Be careful deleting files not requested, this file:
ycomp.exe should be in the recycle bin, I would find out what that is before you empty the bin. You may need that file. What issues are you having now?
Thanks

That's the latest. Everything seems to be working well right now. I will do some more checking on that ycomp file before totally throwing it out. How does it look this time. Let me know. I'll try to get back to you in about 15 min. if we need to do more. Thanks again.

OK John, Your log looks fine with the exception of the fact your Java program needs an update:

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06 <<< out of date

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Found out that the ycomp.exe is yahoo companion which I never use, so no big loss there. I really appreciate the in depth walk through help you have given me. It has been most helpful and my entire family appreciates it. I hope you have a great weekend. I'll run the update and read up on how to stay safe. Thanks again.:)
As the problem appears to be resolved this topic has been archived.
If you need it re-opened please send me or your helper a private message (pm) and provide a link to the thread.
