Machine Sudden Shutdown [Archive] - Safer-Networking Forums

Hello,

My machine recently has a lot of immediate shutdown, i.e. machine just shut down as if I've pressed the buttom for a long time to force its shutdown.

I've suspected that it's due to hardware issues and I've sent it to the Thinkpad Centre for help. They claimed that they've already replaced the motherboard ... But the problems continue even after this.

Thus, I started scanning for the malwares and virus, using Spyware Doctor, Spybot-SD, Trojan Hunter and ewido. And I've patched the machines with all the security patches of Microsoft XP.

While it "appears" that it's more stable, in the sense that it doesn't shutdown in just 15-20 minutes, the time is fairly random to be true. I still encounter the issues.

First of all, are there any malwares that would shutdown the machine the way I describe it? Sorry for my ignorance ...

I see no malware
My first thought is you have way to many process's for a notebook PC, they can have heat issue's even with minimal programs installed, You could Uninstall any unneeded programs and replace the resource intensive Symantec program's.
