Hi,
I have set my home page to www.google.co.uk but each time I open a new tab the browser gos to :

http://feed.helperbar.com/?publisher=W3i&dpid=W3i&co=GB&range=73&searchtype=nt&isid=9860

followed swiftly by :

http://search.snap.do/?publisher=snapdo&feedid=infospace&dpid=2&isid=9860

I have run spybot search & destroy and removed what it found but nothing has changed.
Can anyone help?
Regards,
Jim.

Hello,

Change your start page:
Please run Spybot - Search & Destroy and switch to the Advanced mode via the menu item Mode.
Now select 'Tools' - 'Browser pages' from the navigation bar on the left.
There, please search for the entry with the unwanted starting pages.
Mark it and click "Change" (in the bar at the top).
Then type your wanted starting page like www.google.de or perhaps about:blank.
Now go to 'Tools'->'IE Tweaks'. There you'll see a group of Recommended miscellaneous locks.
Untick the checkboxes in front of both Lock IE... options.
You may need to close all Explorer windows, and maybe even restart Windows before these changes take place.

Best regards

Hello Spybotsandra,
That solves the problem on IE but I use Google Chrome and it is still occurring there.
Is there anything else I can try?
Thanks for your help.
Jim.

Good morning...I'm having a similar problem. Using Windows 7. I removed all of IE and have loaded mozilla/firefox. All worked well last night. But today Snap.Do has returned when I received a message to update flash. After the update it added Snap.Do again.... I ran spybot and restarted laptop with no success. All back to where it was. Any suggestions? Might Hijack this work? I'm afraid to use it as I doubt I could identify what line to actually remove. Thanks for all you've done over these years! Spybot rules!

Hello VillageVicarage,

Click Start > Control Panel > Programs-Uninstall a program > Programs and Features.

Do you see the "SnapDo Smartbar" there?

Best regards, :)

I have followed SnapDo's instructions for reinstalling then uninstalling the program, but I too am still having an issue. I have removed it as a search engine in Chrome, but it still pops up.

Has anyone else had any luck removing it?

Hello flamenco,

How is the computer running, are there any other issues besides the toolbar? :)

Hello Tashi

The PC is often quite slow these days - hesitating and 'freezing' briefly when keys are tapped or buttons clicked. I have suspected the PC is trying to do something in the background and am suspicious of this snapdo thing...

Hi there,

For someone to take a look at the system please start a topic in the Malware Removal Forum (http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22) and a volunteer analyst will advise when available. :)

First see that forum's FAQ which also includes instructions in post #2 on how to provide DDS logs, which are the logs used in the preliminary analysis.

This seems to be one of the first webpages that come up when googling remove snapsearch so I thought I'd contribute how I got rid of it.

The previous reply saying to follow the instructions at http://snap.do/faq/SnapDo/FAQ_ENG.html is actually correct:

How can I completely Uninstall the Sanp.Do SmartBar from my PC?
You may uninstall this software at any time and with no limitations,
using the standard uninstall procedures as offered with your computer's operating system

Windows XP
1.Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
2.In the Currently installed programs box, click the "Sanp.Do Smartbar" then click Change or Change/Remove.

Windows Vista (32bit and 64bit) or Windows 7 (32bit and 64bit)
1.Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Programs and Features.
2.In the Currently installed programs box, click the "Sanp.Do Smartbar" then click Change or Change/Remove.

I can’t uninstall the Sanp.Do Smartbar.

Visit the Sanp.Do download page and reinstall the Smartbar.
Restart your computer.
Uninstall the Smartbar again.
If you still experience the problem, please contact our Support Center.

I had to do the second option to get rid of it being the default search (I tried their other options for doign this and it didn't work).

Hope this helped.

-- download and install Spybot S&D (free version)
-- Download Glary Utilities at glarysoft.com (free version)
-- Open Glary Utilities
-- Click Utilities.
-- Click Modules
-- Click Internet Assistant
-- Click Current Settings
-- Look under "Current Settings" for anything showing "snap.do"
(i.e. start page, search page, default page URL)
-- If the "restore setting" is what you want, click those boxes containing snap.do
-- A Spybot S&D notice stating "Important: Registry change" click "remember" box, and click "yes" or "confirm" or whatever shows up like that, it will be on the left-hand side
-- Click "Restore Settings"
-- Restart your browser.
-- This should have fixed it in all browsers.
NOTE: I may have missed a click or two, but you get

http://websearch.pu-results.info/?r=2013/05/21

I have gone to
'startup tools'
then 'browser pages'

however as you can clearly see the http://websearch.pu-results.info/?r=2013/05/21
page is not listed ...
plus; I dont recognize any of those pages shown under firefox

am I in the wrong setting?
or is this even the right program ?
any assistance would be much appreciated thank you

I had the same problem in chrome. I'd uninstalled all the software, run malwarebytes and gotten rid of everything but the start page for a new tab and home page kept going to snapdo. Fix is so easy I'm mad at myself for not figuring it out. My problem and solution was through Chrome, not firefox or IExplorer, but try to find equivalent settings.

To fix the startup page:
In Chrome (2013) go to Settings - On Start Up - change "Open a specific page or pages" option to a different page (or, as I do select "Open the new tab page")

To fix the home page:
In Chrome (2013) go to Settings - Appearance - Show Home Button - Click "Change" and set it to whatever you want the home page to be.

Sorry, don't know how to change these settings in Firefox or IExplorer.

Remember, this is after you uninstall the software and run malwarebytes or something similar and have all that cleared up.
