My system has smitfraud-c.generic, which McAfee doesn't recognize yet. It looks like quite and ordeal to remove. How far does the infection go? Does it get into the mbr (Master Boot Record) and does it replicate onto a second (data) hard drive? Thanks for any info you can give me.

In order for someone to advise they will need to take a look at the system. :)
If you'd like them to do that please see the forum sticky which includes guidelines and instructions in post #2 on how to provide preliminary "DDS" logs used for analysis.

Then start a new topic providing the DDS logs as shown in that FAQ, along with a description of the computer's symptoms, and a volunteer analyst will assist you when available.
