View Full Version : I've been hijacked by "Security Center/Security shield"

It self-installed while Bing-searching in Firefox(I'm fairly sure--else Internet Explorer). The Google search showed legitimate/expected 'hits' that, when opened, went to some other site. This Security-Center installed a red shield in my lower right task bar, and will not let me open ANYTHING. Even using "Con-Alt-Delete" merely shows another 'green-square-gridlike symbol in lower right taskbar.
Attempting opening 'mbam', 'avg', 'firefox', etc, shows that each app has 'trojans' and/or 'infections'. I'm using Windows XP pro, version 2002. I'll have to use this, my laptop, to communicate with you; and then use a thumbdrive to transfer your guided directions to the infected desktop, just beside me. I am having to access my email, OutlookExpress, via a web-approach. Thank you for any and all help. Sam

While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen. It is advisable that you back up your important data before starting any clean up procedure. Neither Safer Networking Forums nor the Analyst providing the advice may be held responsible for any loss.

Until we deem your system clean I am going to ask you not to install or uninstall any software or hardware except for the programs we may run.

Read this please, see if you can run Malwarebytes inside the Chameleon folder

Let me see if I can make it easier for you

Click on Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes Anti Malware > Tools and then Chameleon and it will look like this, then start the first one and see if you can get Malwarebytes to run, if not proceed to the next one.

What this does is to run Malwarebytes from withiin the Chameleon folder and its protected from Malware and Malwarebytes should run

Ken, thank you for responding to my plea. However, I became anxious and re-formatted my harddrive and cloned another 'loose' hd to it (one I had cloned as a backup a few days back) losing less than half a month of new input. This technique I had not thought of until the 22nd(?). So, I really need to close this plea for help. How do I do that on this forum, so that I do not impose on another person trying to help? or does this reply close it? Thank you again for your willingness to help. shadow5

Glad you got back up and running, sometimes with the infections going around its best to format and reinstall the Operating System. Thanks for letting me know.

Not to worry, I will close this thread, any other problems by all means please post back by starting a New Topic
