View Full Version : claro-search hijacks homepage - also abine
I have eliminated Claro Toolbar but cannot get rid of claro-search - it changes my home page and alters my options in Firefox. I've used search engine reset, taken out the Google sqlite file and it still persists.
At the same time I updated Firefox to try and get rid bit to no avail, then when I reinstalled DoNotTRackPLus I now also get Abine.com loading on a separate tab to claro
SkyBot and Malwarebytes do not find the problem - any ideas?
I am a 'silver-surfer' so technical jargon may be over my head!!:thud:
I'd never heard of DoNotTrackPlus before you posted, but Abine.com does seem to be the website associated with it,and I couldn't find anything bad about either.I'm not sure why the tab appears, but maybe it can be configured somehow not to do that.
I couldn't find anything about it on their page exactly, but there is a part about the start/post-install page coming up every time the browser is restarted, though it doesn't mention Firefox:

Thank you for the advice - I looked for a suitable forum thread but missed the malware removal one! My apologies.
Re Abine - I note the post install comment as that is what I've got although the advice from Abine is for browsers other than Firefox; I've e-mailed Abine to no avail to date.
I willl pursue through Malware Removal forum if I don't succeed
Thank you for your time; it is volunteers like yourself that make things easier for idiots like me.
:thanks:
You're welcome,and no apologies needed,you didn't do anything wrong. :)
If you solve the abine.com tab opening problem, that still won't clear up the problem with the claro-search page.In my opinion,it would be better to go to the Malware Removal forum first, and then work on configuring DoNotTrackPlus afterwards.
