Hi. I have had sb for years and am currently running 1.4. I have noticed a change in the way the progress bar shows scanning process.In the bottom I used to see the files being scanned at a very rapid pace mostly to fast to even read.Now it shows a number or two for a while then changes as the green bar moves.For instance it may say cool web search 114/3000 and stay for minutes then change to another malware. Is this a deliberate change in your program or is there a problem with my program?Thank You ,Lee

There is no change that I am aware of. During the running of a Spybot scan ("Check for problems") the status bar in the lower left hand corner of the screen shows the following:
"Running bot-check(xxxxx/yyyyy:zzzzzz)" where:
xxxxx = Current check count.
yyyyy = Total check count.
zzzzz = Malware check being performed.
Since the zzzzz value it is the malware check being performed by Spybot and there are more checks for certain malwares than others, the zzzzz value may not change for a while. However on my system the xxxxx value continually progresses, although not at a uniform rate, until the xxxxx and yyyyy values are equal when it appears that checks take place for "Internet Explorer – various - Tracking Cookie" followed by "Internet Explorer – username - Bookmark". Since I have a lot of bookmarks, the only place during the scan were there is no change to the status bar for a while is when the "Internet Explorer – username - Bookmark" check is taking place (currently 46+ seconds).

Thank you for your reply Spybot Fan.Mine always showed running bot check-xxxx moved so fast you could not read the numbers yyyy total count was not there untill the scan completed-and zzzzzz moved so fast you could only ocasionally read it when it was on a malware with many counts such as coolweb.At some point after updating to 1.4 It started showing the progress the way you discribed it to me!Must be some kind of change on my system for some reason if yours has always ran the way you discribe. Go figure!! As long as you think mine is operating properly I am ok with it. Again Thank you for your help. Lee

About the only thing that I add is that if there was/is a sudden increase in the time it takes Spybot to scan your system that can't be accounted for by:
An increase in the number of detection signatures that Spybot is scanning for.
An increase of the information, programs, etc. stored on your system.
Then there may be a reason for concern. For example, from the following thread:
Slow scan speed from 5/2/2006 Updates?
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=4172

hello,

if Spybot gets significantly slower , rootkit files could be the reason.
for now a quick method to find and disable rootkits is fsecure blacklight (http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml)(still beta)
Note: The link in Yodama (http://forums.spybot.info/member.php?u=223)'s original quote appears to be broken. The following is a current link:
Try F-Secure BlackLight Beta (http://www.f-secure.com/exclude/blacklight/index.shtml)
