View Full Version : Spybot says my DVD drive is infected! :-/

Just installed, updated and ran Spybot S&D 2, it found several things on drive E:\ including Staffcop, which has me worried, but my E: drive is a DVD drive! and it's empty... Spybot failed to remove them even after a re-start so I shutdown and un-plugged the DVD drive and then restarted and re-ran the scan - no malware - restarted and re-connected DVD drive and re-scanned and they're back! :red:

What is going on? Is this correct or false positives?

Hello,

That could be a bug.
Can you please post your Checks or SDCleaner.log ?
It should be stored here:
C:\ProgramData\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs
Thanks.

Best regards

Ah thanks, I'll try and attach the log...

Had to split it into 2 files as it was over the size limit:

Hello,

Thanks for reporting.
That looks like a false positive.
We will check that.
Would it be possible to also post the Scanner.log?

Since this probably is a false-positive, it will most likely be fixed in the next update, which is on the upcoming Wednesday.

OK, I'll give that a try. I tried the last version of Spybot S&D 1 with all the updates and it didn't find them so hopefully it is a false positive.

Um... When exactly is this update and where do I find it? :santa:

Hello,

Sorry, by false positive I meant in this case that this is falsely detected due to a bug in File Scanner. We are sorry for the inconvenience. The bug has been reported to our development team.

Hello,

A fix will not be available in an update but in a next version upgrade. There is no release date yet, as we are still working on it.

Don't know if it's relevant, but my son's HP laptop running Vista 32 has "D" as a recovery Drive and "E" is the dvd drive. the recovery"D" drive is almost full. He says it came set up this way and he has never intentional put anything in it. It's a complete partititon I believe I'm thinking it must be holding backups of some kind.
