Spybot 2 update issue

So I installed Spybot 2 five days ago, and immediately started an update, it found 7 files that needed updating, and updated them with no problems. Fast forward to next Wednesday, I start the update (check status) again, it says "77 files up to date". I figure updates are late so today I try again, still nothing. I check the site, it says there are updates for Wednesday. I check the update log and it shows me:

Hello,

"Check status" only tells you which files are up to date and if they have been downloaded correctly. "Update" actually offers new files and downloads them.

Yes, but the problem is "check status" told me that all my files where "up to date" (even though they weren't).

edit:It seems to me like the "check status" button doesn't do anything for some reason, clicking on it doesn't add anything to the log, whereas clicking on the "update" button adds this to the log:

I had the same problem.
I deleted all files in 2 dirs:

Spybot - Search & Destroy 2\Updates\Downloads
and
Spybot - Search & Destroy 2\Updates\Extracts

and now the update is working :)

So yeah after deleting the "updates.uid" from the updates folder, check status works.

I cant get the Dec. 2012 updates either. I get the 77 files updated. I can do a direct download but, then it asks for a destination directory & I dont know what that is...Help!!

Did you click on "Update" and not just on "Check Status"?
Did you open the Updater with a right click and choose "run as administrator" (http://www.safer-networking.org/faq/how-can-i-get-administrator-rights-under-windows-vista7/)?
If you are performing the manual update (http://www.safer-networking.org/updates/files/spybotsd_includes.exe) please make sure you store it in the Spybot program folder:
Windows XP: C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy 2
Windows Vista or Windows 7 or Windows 8: C:\Programs (x86)\Spybot - Search & Destroy 2

I got the Dec. 5th update but got no message that update was completed. I browsed updates & saw the Dec. 5th update was in there about halfway down the list.

Yeah, that's the issue we're having, "check status" is not working, so the only way to figure out if it updated is to check the log or scroll the update list or delete the file I mentioned above.

"Check status" is working, but mostly misunderstood.
See my post above.
The "Update" is working either, but does not give a notification yet when the files have been updated.
We are aware of this issue and will improve it.
To see if the updates did take place please also check your update log.
It should be stored here:
C:\Users\All Users\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs\Updates

@spybotsandra What should the check status button do then? In my understanding, it should check and show if some files need updating or if all files are up to date. At the moment it does nothing, except if the "updates.uid" file is erased.

Yes but the problem is, that it doesn't do it. It always reports that all the files are up to date (even when they are not), unless I delete the "updates.uid" file.

I found this thread while trying to find an answer to why for the past few weeks Spybot keeps saying that it has been more than 8 days since last update, even though I check for updates - and believed they had been completed - every week, as well as run a complete system scan.

I click the "Update" button, see a pop-up which SAYS that it is checking for updates, and it gives every impression that any available updates are then performed. When I click "Check Status", it informs me that files are up to date. Because I have been annoyed by the message still claiming that it had been more than 8 days since I updated, I would repeat the update multiple times through the various methods available (run as administrator from the Start Center, click the Update button from the update screen, and even right click the icon in the taskbar), but that message would not go away.

I had no reason to check the Update Log as every single method clearly indicated that updates had been done.

Now, thanks to this thread, I see my log shows this for the past three weeks, apparently the last update was done on May 1!:

How is it possible that spybot could clearly be informing me that it is checking for updates, applying them, and that files are up to date, when they weren't? Should I really have to check the log every week in order for the updates to actually be done?:nono:
