Some foreigner sounding man called me at home and said he was from Windows Care, calling about my freezing up problem. I have had this freezing up problem since early December. Didn't trust him but did a few things he said:

In RUN he had me type eventvwr where he showed me the errors showing up.
He asked me what program I was experiencing the problem the most with and I told him Microsoft Word and Excel. In RUN he had me type cmd then assoc where he proceeded to read me off my "my computer security number"...all but the last two numbers which I wouldn't read to him. He said he knew they were xx but I wouldn't tell him anything. He started getting hyper when I wouldn't tell him the last two numbers so I told him to give me his phone number and name, which I'm sure he gave a phony one, and I hung up. Immediately someone else called back and asked me when I was going to be calling that number and I told him not to bother me any more. I'm embarassed to admit all this because I should know better but that is what happened.

My computer is freezing up and I am disturbed that he had my unlisted phone number.

I ran spybot (but I couldn't get it to be in safe mode with the F8 key at startup [windows XP Home]) but I didn't know what was bad or not to remove in the Spybot log. I did remove:
Freeze.com, GoForFiles, and Google Chrome from my add/remove programs.

After that I printed out and read the malware removal instructions on this site.

I have downloaded Spybot, ERUNT, DDS Log, aswMBR, and hijackthis.

I sure would appreciate help in cleaning out my computer.

Thanks.
Michele

Hello michele2012,

Hello michele2012,

For someone to take a look at the system please start a topic in the Malware Removal Forum (http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22) and a volunteer analyst will advise when available. :)

First see that forum's FAQ which also includes instructions in post #2 on how to provide DDS and aswMBR logs, which are used in the preliminary analysis.

Please follow the instructions in the link (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)I posted previously and start a new topic here in the malware removal forum providing the DDS and aswMBR logs used for analysis. :)

Best regards.
