Hello,

I am having problems with the threat Command Service (as I can see many other people have). I tried to delete them with Adaware SE and Spybot S&D but that didnt work (again as I can see with everyone else who had the same problem with Command Service). Could someone help me?

Welcome to the forum, if you are receiving help elsewhere, let us know so we can close your topic. If you still need help, do this.

You are running HJT from a Temp folder and that is just not safe, we will have no backups if needed. I prefer you put it here: C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. If you need more instructions, use these:
http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial94.html

Post a new HJT log reflecting the safe postition for HJT and I will respond as soon as possible after that. You do have some nasty infections.

Thanks

Thanks for making the location of HJT safe, let's try this to get rid of the junk.
Your trojan >>> http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/w32alcrab.html

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs and uninstall PuritySCAN By OIN, OIN or OuterInfo. Look while there and uninstall any program you know does not belong there, if you are unsure, let me know and I will look.
If you do not have yhose items to uninstal then download and run this uninstaller: http://www.outerinfo.com/howto.html

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

I have several comments questions:

I still see a viewpoint: "O3 - Toolbar: Viewpoint Toolbar - {F8AD5AA5-D966-4667-9DAF-2561D68B2012} - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBar.dll (file missing)"

I didnt want to check it until you had a look at it.

Also from your last post, I just wanted to let you know that when I scanned my computer using "Hijack This" today, the following were not found in the scan that you had asked me to delete:

"O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Bilcbd] C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\APPLIC~1\STEM32~1\POOLSV~1.EXE"

"C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\APPLIC~1\STEM32~1\POOLSV~1.EXE
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)"

"O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Welo] "C:\WINNT\system32\ASEMBL~1\tracert.exe" -vt ndrv"

"O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Bilcbd] C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\APPLIC~1\STEM32~1\POOLSV~1.EXE"

Does that mean they are no longer there or are they just hiding? I didnt delete them myself, they just didnt show up on the last 2 scans I did. Also 2 folders that you asked me to delete, I didnt see them. I just want to make sure they are not there:

"C:\DOCUMENTS & SETTINGS~1\ADMINI~1\APPLIC~1\STEM32~1\POOLSV~1.EXE <<< folder"

"C:\Program Files\webHancer\ <<< folder"

Also, my Norton Antivirus keeps popping up at start showing certain .DLL files that are a risk. It keeps saying that they are automatically deleted but the message keeps reappearing everytime I start my computer. Norton says that they are Downloaders. I had already done one scan yesterday (before I read and did everything you asked me to in your post)...but I guess it didnt work. I am not sure if this is related to command service or a result of it. Any idea and any suggestions to get rid of it?

Hopefully I was clear. If you have any questions about my post, please let me know. Other than that, everything went fine.

Looking at the HJT log, then I will try to answer your questions.
With the exception of this item:
O3 - Toolbar: Viewpoint Toolbar - {F8AD5AA5-D966-4667-9DAF-2561D68B2012} - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBar.dll (file missing)

You have a clean HJT log. I have no idea why it is still there, as you can see it has no file so it is really just a dead item. Let me show you information about Viewpoint:
For your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge. If you do not use it I would like to remove it and I have included some information about it. Let me know in your next post.
http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
http://www.greatis.com/appdata/u/v/viewmgr.exe.htm
http://www.spywareinfo.com/newsletter/archives/2005/nov4.php#viewpoint
Look in Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs for anything VIEWPOINT and uninstall it, then use HJT again to remove the line, like this:
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O3 - Toolbar: Viewpoint Toolbar - {F8AD5AA5-D966-4667-9DAF-2561D68B2012} - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBar.dll (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Then just to be sure, navigate to that folder and delete it if it is still there:
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\ <<< delete that folder.

Most of those other items are PurityScan adware and either the uninstall you did or the uninstaller if you had to run it killed them, then HJT finished the job as it did with WebHancer.
I am not sure about what Norton is finding, you need to write the information down and post it for me so I can see it. It could even be as simple as Norton see the missing .dll in that viewpoint item? Without information I can not be sure.

Here are the instructions for removing the command.exe items, if it is still there.

Please download and unzip Ren-cmdservice to your Desktop.
It will only work correctly if the folder is placed on your Desktop and extracted !!.
http://downloads.subratam.org/Lon/ren-cmdservice.zip

Open the ren-cmdservice folder by doubleclicking it and then doubleclick the
ren-cmdservice.bat file to run the program.
A text will open when it is finished, Post it please.
Then restart the PC run spybot check for and fix any problems found.

Let me hear how things are running oncce you finish the above. Make sure you reboot to cause the changes to go into effect.

Thanks

Command Service is no more. No problems were found by Spybot. Thank you very much pskelley!

As for the Norton Virus alerts, they are still there. It gives me the message:

Virus Alert
High Risk

Object name: C:\Docume~1\AD...\t1156697646.DLL
Virus name: Downloader
Action Taken: File Automatically Deleted.

It gives me that message for a few other .DLL's:

t1156697649.DLL
t1156697652.DLL
t1156697694.DLL

All in C:\Docume~1\AD...

Nothing showing in the HJT log, make sure you still have hidden files and folders showing then navigate to those files.
C:Documents & Setting\Administrator\ locate and delete those files, if you want to scan them first, here are tools:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html

You will need to scan the complete pathway which should be:
C:Documents & Setting\Administrator\t1156697649.DLL (look to make sure I am correct)
same for the other two. Make sure they are bad first, Norton has made mistakes before, then delete them. If windows won't let you, do it in safe mode.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html

t1156697649.DLL
t1156697652.DLL
t1156697694.DLL

Once they are gone, run Norton to make sure you are clean. Keep me posted.

Thanks

The files show as .EXE and not .DLL. They are in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp. Im not seeing any .DLL files with the same name.

I used VirusTotal to scan one of the files...file t1156697649.EXE. This is what I got:

STATUS: FINISHEDComplete scanning result of "t1156697649.exe", received in VirusTotal at 08.27.2006, 20:01:51 (CET).

I also tried to use Virusscan.jotti.org (for all the files I listed). It gave me the message:

Humm...makes you wonder what Norton was finding? Did you do a search for the items with the .dll after them, they may be elsewhere, hackers don't try to make it easy for us to find their junk.

Now to get to this:
They are in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp <<< you can delete anything in that folder, that is what TEMP means. A few old files may stay. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks

Yeah I did a search with .DLL at the end...nothing was found.

I deleted everything in the Temp folder. Most of the t1156697 and similar files were deleted with no problem. The only one that didnt delete was t1156697649...it gave me a sharing violation error.

Im guessing I just need to restart my computer, then try again and delete it. If that doesnt work, I will let you know. If it does then I will delete it, scan with Norton AntiVirus to make sure everything is ok. I will let you know how it goes.

Deleting them from the Temp folder does not work. They get deleted but if I restart my machine, they just come right back.

There are a couple things that has me concerned:

1) In my HJT log (i'll post a new one), I see something called "spoolsv". Is that related to the "POOLSV" which you asked me to delete?

2) In C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus, there is a folder for Quarantine. In it are a lot of .DLL's, .EXE's and some .TMP's as well as others. Could anyone of these files be the reason for all of these .DLL's that keep showing up in my Temp folder? I could post everything thats in my quarantine...maybe you will recognize some bad file?

OK, let's chat a little, first I am wondering why you are running with so many Internet Explorer windows open?

this item: t1156697649.exe scanned as safe earlier, I would quit worrying about it.

1) C:\WINNT\system32\spoolsv.exe has to do with your printer, leave it alone.
http://www.castlecops.com/o23list-770.html

2) Norton quarantine, once they are in the quarantine folder, they can not get out. Unless you manually tell Norton to put them back on your computer. What I want you to do is delete everything in that quarantine folder:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000041213443506
also look for any empty the Norton recycle bin if there is one:
http://service1.symantec.com/support/nsw.nsf/ba62122e5d142a6588256d87006b22be/831aa5c6ef0d750685256c370048ad89?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam

3) Your HJT log is clean, do this next: System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam

4) Update Norton once you have completed the above instructions and run a system scan, let me know about anything Norton can not delete or quarantine.

5) Review this information, these experts will have good suggestions for you to consider to make your computer more secure: Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=279
http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict2520.html
http://cybercoyote.org/security/not-admin.shtml

Run the computer for 24 hours than post to let me know how it is running. We will decide if there is more to do at that point.

Thanks...Phil

"OK, let's chat a little, first I am wondering why you are running with so many Internet Explorer windows open?"

I only have this forum open and thats it and thats how it has been this entire day. No other internet explorer is open...so im not sure why.

Numbers 1 I will ignore.

Number 2, I will do what you said.

Number 3, I dont have System Restore (using Windows 2000), so I guess I will ignore it.

Number 4, I'll update my Norton. It was updated 2 days ago, but I'll do it again if it needs to be updated.

Number 5, thanks for the links. I really could use them.

I will post again when to let you know. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the feedback, sorry about the System Restore, of course 2M does not have it:laugh: I am so used to working with Windows XP.

As far as the Internet Explorer windows, look back over your logs, you will see them, it may have to do with 2M and HJT? I have never run the operating sytem and know little about it.

Thanks

Haha, no problem. I actually used to use Windows XP, but it gave me internet problems once I installed Service Pack 2 (for my iPod), so I switched to 2000. The system restore was a nice feature, even though I didnt use it too much.

Well everything seems to be fine now. Norton AntiVirus detects nothing. I will restart my machine just to make sure.

Well Ive done everything you asked me to, however the problem seems to still be there. Im still getting those Norton Antivirus alerts everytime I restart the machine. Its still telling me that these .DLL files (they are different ones each time) have been deleted. I go to the Temp folder and I delete them (they show up as .EXE extensions). I also go to Norton's Quarantine folder and delete the files that are there. I ran a Norton Scan and it showed that there were no viruses found, but when I restart, those messages keeping coming back.

Any suggestions?

We will need to take a harder look, in the meantime continue to see what you can find out on your end. It would not hurt to get Norton involved in the to see what they have to say.
http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/

1) I believe these programs will run on 2M, let's start with a virus check or two to see what they say.
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm
tutorial: http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/activescan/ayuda/ayudacom/ayuda.asp?IdLang=2
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml
Please post the results of any scan you use.

2) ewido scan: Delete anything ewido finds unless you know it is not bad.
First download ewido anti-spyware from HERE (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/) and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition files.
On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
Under "Reports"
Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the ewido report scan.

3) Let's check for hidden rootkits, download BlackLight from here:
https://europe.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml scan with the program and post the scan results for me. Do not fix anything until I look.

post the results of the online scans, the ewido scan results, the BlackLight scan results and any comments you think will help.

Thanks...Phil

BlackLight gives me the following message:

"F-Secure Blacklight could not acquire necessary priviledges (SeDebugPriviledge)

-Your computer settings may prevent acquiring these priviledges.
-A malicious program might have disabled these priviledges."

Just to let you know, the Norton Antivirus messages no longer show up. They stopped after using Panda Antivirus. I did Ewido obviously to be on the safe side. I wanted to do BlackLight, but it doesnt seem to be working.

Thanks for the feedback, I have never received that message from BlackLight before? Were you signed in as administrator? Perhaps it will not work with 2M? Panda only gives us a report, it used to remove stuff, they stopped doing that unless you buy it, but it is a good scan, and we can use it to set up manual removal if we need to. Now ewido did remove all it found that you told it to remove. Look at the ewido scan report in the beginning and at the end. It removed a lot more than cookies and that could have been the problems. remember that you can keep the scan (ewido) and update it free for as long as you like, but there is no reason to allow it to run after the trial unless you purchase the product.
Let the computer run for a day or so, I will ask tashi:) to leave the topic open for a few day. Let me know after 48 hours.

Thanks...Phil

I am signed in as the Administrator. Thats actually how I have been using my computer for the entire time. Im actually running the BlackLight Online scanner right now. Its actually finding viruses. I can post the results if you want. Other than that, I will leave the computer on for about 24 hours.

Thanks for all your help Pskelley! Thats quite a mess you got me out of  . Thanks again.

Yes, post the results of the online F-Secure scan, I am interested in seeing what it found.

Thanks:laugh:

Here's the results. Most were from the Quarantine folder. Am I understanding right when I say that Norton Antivirus itself is infected?

Not really, that is what Norton is supposed to do, delete or quarantine. Empty the quarantine folder and keep an eye on things for a day or so.

Ok, I'll delete everything in quarantine and keep my machine running for a day or 2 (keeping an eye on things of course :) )

Thanks again.
