View Full Version : Security Warning Popup
I have just installed spybot 2.0 on a windows7 system having used version 1.xx for several years on XP.
However on one particular website which presents customised data I keep getting the security warning popup do you want to run this application.
The location shown is as attached and of the form
webaddress/...abababab...
where the trailing element is obviously a randomly generated id which varies after each selected page.
This happens with both IE9 and Mozilla and I cant see which element of spybot it is coming from and how to configure it out (it would obviously need to be at the website level)

I don't think that security warning is coming from Spybot.

Sdhelper is an internet explorer plugin,you wouldn't see it in Mozilla.
I think you might be seeing that warning due to this:

Many thanks for that, you are right its the java update.
I hadn't picked that up and now realise I had done the java update at similar time to the spybot install.

I was getting this exact same popup as well as random "ads" on websites that hadn't had ads before. This all happened right after installing the new version of Spybot. I don't use IE but stay with Firefox. I had to uninstall spybot and run a malware program to get rid of the stuff. Makes me wonder about the Java thing.

What's being discussed in the article above wasn't a threat.What's discussed in the article was a legitimate security prompt because Java security levels were set to high.
I have no idea if there was some malware out there afterwards mimicking the java Security Warning or not,though I suppose it's possible.
But besides all that,I've used Spybot approximately since 2004 and no ads or malware have come with it so far.I'm not sure what happened with you.Perhaps it was a coincidence or you had a Spybot clone accidentally downloaded? :)
