I'm behind a firewall that limits network traffic to roughly 250KBytes per system, after which that system is given extremely low priority. I'd like to somehow ensure that Spybot updates don't put a system in the penalty box. I either need assurance that updates are always quite a bit smaller than 250KBytes, or the DNS name of the update system so I can pre-list an exception. What exactly is the update server "TDS"? I put it into Google and found both .tdstelecom.com and .tds.net. Which one of these is the update server?

One (or more) system(s) will be doing Spybot update; I can't predict exactly how many or exactly when as the procedure is manual and it depends on how many human resources are available. The "penalty box" that throttles the throughput of any unidientified downloads on the other hand exists on the firewall between the end system(s) and the Internet. (i.e. the desired tweak to the firewall configuration will go on a different system than the one where Spybot lives and executes.) Any configuration change would need to be made to the firewall. To say the same thing a different way, a "fix" for one system will have the effect of fixing the problem not only for the one system of interest right now but also for many other systems in the future.

If you are considering using Spybot for a large group of systems you should consider using Spybot S&D Intranet Server which allows the centralized distribution of updates. There are several reasons:
It allows the review of updates before they are distributed.
It limits the external bandwidth requirements (which seems to be a concern in your organization.

For an individual system:

The update process starts by downloading the spybotsd.ini file from one of these two sites:
http://security.kolla.de/updates/spybotsd.ini (for Spybot-S&D 1.3).
http://www.safer-networking.org/updates/spybotsd.ini (for Spybot-S&D 1.4).
The spybotsd.ini file contains a list of the update servers and the available updates. The update servers are currently:

TDS (USA)=http://spybot.mirrors.tds.net/updates/

Note: The list of update servers is dynamic and changes frequently. The spybotsd.ini file that contains the list of update servers is copied to the following file during the update process:
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Updates\online.ini
I suggest that you periodically check that file to see if there are any changes to the update servers (listed under "[-Mirrors]" in the above file).
