I experienced an increasingly sluggish computer, but, having run Microsoft's Antispyware on a regular basis, I thought spyware was not the cause. After coming across a positive reference to Spybot, I tried it. Lo and behold, I found that my computers were ridden with junk! And a subsequent scan with Microsoft Defender (on 25 August 2006) did no better at turning up spyware or adware. Microsoft generates billions of dollars of revenue per year, yet its ability to help computer users (of the operating systems it sells!) is starkly inferior to the efforts of Spybot. Congratulations on outstanding work!

The only advantage of Windows Defender is "Straightforward operation and thorough removal technology" ,just becuase MS has the source code of windows

Yes, other than that I'd take Spybot over Defender any day.
