View Full Version : Spybot 'freezes'

I have used Spybot for a long time both on my Windows 7 laptop, and on my old trusty PC Windoxs XP.
Suddenly, (only on the XP), when I run Spybot, it starts checking, and then stops ('freezes') after about 10% of the scan. Bottom left-hand corner reads
<<< Running bot-check (52797/836292: Fraud.Antivirus2008>>>
I removed Spybot completely, and re-installed - same thing.
Help!!!!

The latest Version is Spybot 2.1, maybe you want to use this.

Hello,
You seem to be using a dated version of Spybot-S&D.
Please uninstall Spybot - Search & Destroy according to the following link (http://www.safer-networking.org/faq/how-to-uninstall/).
Then download our current version Spybot - Search & Destroy 2.1.
You will find links to several download locations (http://www.safer-networking.org/mirrors/) for this new version on our web site.

I have now downloaded the version 2 Spybot, but cannot believe its scanning results ..... what used to take 20 minutes for a scan, is now completed in about 6 seconds???? Ist that possible????
spybotSandra is probably gone for the weekend,so I'll give a go at an answer. :)
Please open Spybot 2.1,checkmark Advanced User Mode,click Updates.It should do a status check and let you know when any updates were downloaded.If any updates are needed,click Updates over to the left.
If you were all up to date,then please click Settings,then the categories tab.If all or most of the boxes are unchecked underneath Malware Detection,rightclick somewhere in the window,and select either Spyware Scan Only,or All Filesets,if you would like to also scan for Tracks.
