View Full Version : Spybot "Update" buttons stopped working.
Sorry if this issue has been asked and answered already. I am not techie...hell, it took me an hour to figure out how to create a forum account here! (Spybot's sign-up system is NOT newbie user-friendly.)
I have been a spybot user for many years. While I don't presume to understand what spybot does or how it works, I have had no problems using it ... until recently.
My issue: none of the "update" buttons do anything. Why -- and how do I fix it?
Latest Search&Destroy version --1.6.2.46
Latest detection update -- 9/18/2013

No, Zenobia, anytime I click the "search for updates" button I get nothing. NOTHING happens. (Thus the reason for my post/inquiry.)
Ok,please save this to your desktop.It's manual detection updates.Please don't run it.If you agree to try the next part of what I post,it's for in case you still can't Update. :)

Try uninstalling Spybot.I`ll post this for in case you run into trouble,but basically all you have to do is go to add/remove programs,then reboot:

Download and install again.

Zenobia, I followed your advice and did what I suppose I should have done from the beginning. I uninstalled my older version (1.6.2) and installed the newer one (2.1.21 SR2). Still, I wonder why the Update buttons on my old version simply quit working. It's a mute point.
BTW, the new version looks somewhat different -- but nice! I installed, downloaded the definitions and ran the scan (22 minutes for the latter).

If I remember this correctly,I believe there was one other person who had their update button stop working completely on a Spybot 1.6.2 or earlier version,and I don't believe it was ever discovered why.So it's rare,but probably just one of those unexplainable things that happen from time to time. :)
