Spybot 2.2 Home - My Computer is Now Very Slow

I've just downloaded Spybot 2 +AV Home and now my computer takes forever to search for anything on the internet. When I had the free version, it worked great with no loss of speed, but now it can take up to half a minute or longer for search results to happen & sometimes the screen just freezes. That is even longer than it used to take before I got Fibre Optic Broadband. My computer also tells me that that Spybot is using a lot of memory at this time.
Do I need any special settings, or should I just uninstall Spybot to solve the problem?
