Hi OCD,
I am very sorry I took so long to respond to your last post, and can understand why you archived the "endless wait circle" after such an endless wait. I will try to be more diligent in the future if you could be so kind as to wrap this up with me. :thanks:

I have had a lot of testing time, but just now used your instructions for uninstalling Mcaffe and reinstalling spybot and making the adjustments. Your first paragraph about spybot was not accomplished as there is an "internet protection" tab but not an "internet connection" tab. Although they both had proxy content, there was nothing similar. I also followed the instructions from spybot they sent in two separate emails.

I now have a new problem with this error constantly popping up and requiring multiple clicks on the X to get it to go away. It pops up on reboot as well and stops the system start up process until you click and click on it. I think it's related to adobe again but I could not find a coherent "fix" on their technical site.

An application has made and attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly:oops::oops:

Hi Samwise,

Welcome back. :) Sorry you are still having difficulties.

What makes you think it is Adobe related?

Have you tried uninstalling Adobe to see if the problem persists?

Sorry, I left off the part that makes me think adobe:
Program:C:\Program Files(x86)\Adob...

It actually has the elipse after Adob.

I will try uninstalling it.

Hi OCD,
I uninstalled Adobe Reader XI (11.0.06) and rebooted and the error message came back upon reboot but without the Adob... text, which seems to indicate it was not adobe after all. I still have three adobe flash player files and one shockwave file that I did not uninstall.

Hi Samwise,

Can you provide a screenshot of the error message?

Hi Samwise,

Can you provide a screenshot of the error message?

I've tried, but it won't let me highlight it to paste and my screen shot button does not seem to work. The key looks like this:

Print
Screen
SysRq

I've tried it alone and with ctrl, shift, and Alt.

Hi Samwise,

Hmm .... Let's try and roll the computer back to just before this issues started.

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
Follow the onscreen directions and select a date before this error started occurring.
Reboot after you are done and see if the error message is still present.

okay, I'll go look at our threads in the archive to figure out a good date.

I restored the computer to 2-2-14, after we seemed to fix the problems and prior to installing spybot. The computer came back on without the bothersome message. I re-installed Spybot, without changing all of the settings yet and sometime during this process I was able to reinstall adobe without Mcaffee hijacking in (there was some work I needed to get done). I tried logging on here to report last night and the browser could not connect to spybot or this forum with repeated attempts. I rebooted to make sure everything was okay and to try again later. I logged on this morning and after putting in my password the computer went into endless circle mode, changing to black screen and then going to my desktop, with 100's of identical error messages. It took about an hour for me to be able to navigate to system restore and to restore it again to prior to putting spybot back on.
It came back on with a couple of messages about missing files that I was able to get rid of with one click and to navigate here. I do not currently have an antivirus program. It seems there is something wrong with spybot. I'm not going to do anything until I hear from you.

As I am typing here, the firewall program is asking to block or allow a program: Autorun detected, Module v4.0.30319, requested by C:\windows\system32\msiexec.exe I allowed this before system restore, how about now?

I just saw a 'time to update Itunes software" notice and it reminded me that since the last fix, I have not been able to update it. It would give an error message directing me to the program to try manual update and that would not work either and then the update message would reappear. Following the advice from this forum, I always try to keep all software up to date when prompted.

Hi Samwise,

I do not currently have an antivirus program. I can't stress enough that you need to have an Anti-Virus program installed and running at all times if you are on the Internet. You can try one of the free programs below until you work through this issue with SpyBot.

AntiVirus Program
As a rule of thumb one should run one firewall, one antivirus program in memory, and one antispyware utility in memory. It's fine to have other security tools available on an as-needed or on-demand basis, but when multiple tools simultaneously perform the same function, you're asking for trouble.

I would recommend that you install one of these free Antivirus programs immediately. Just choose one:
Microsoft Security Essentials (http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/mse.aspx)
Avast (http://www.avast.com/en-au/free-antivirus-download)

C:\windows\system32\msiexec.exe I allowed this before system restore, how about now?

This is Microsoft's Windows Installer program, which processes product installation files in the.MSI format. It normally appears only when invoked by double-clicking on a .MSI file (or having one run automatically as part of an installation process.) Don't terminate this process if it is present, or you will likely mess up an installation in progress.

You should set your firewall to allow this file. Sometimes after malware removal we have to re-teach our security software how to handle certain files.

Was the browser log in issue you mentioned above isolated to this website?

I would like you to run this scan to make sure nothing has repopulated after using System Restore.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

Right click and select "Run as Administrator" to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply

Here are my partial responses before rebooting:

OK, a few questions to clarify where we are at the moment:

Was the browser log in issue you mentioned above isolated to this website? Yes, it said "database to get to web site not found and error establishing a database" Actually this is what made me re-intall spybot, because I thought I could connect through spybot's help link, but it did not work. I thought maybe you guys were offline for some reason.
Adobe is installed w/o McAfee, correct? - Have you encountered any issues? Adobe seemed to work fine, I needed it for some pdf docs. When it was installing I noticed it trying to install mcaffee and tried to cancel it. For some reason it cancelled mcaffee but installed adobe.
Is Spybot currently installed? It shouldn't be installed although a search seems to show an older version. I also did a scan and immunization once I re-installed it.

Steps to take:

Uninstall Spybot if you haven't already done so, reboot. Okay, it was not in the uninstall list of programs so it must be gone. There is an old file called spyware blaster from 2011.
Install an Anti-Virus, reboot.

Hopefully you found my other responses, they bled into your quotes.

I rebooted and got these two messages, which I now remember came up after the system restore as well:

Could not load file or assembly
'sorrtbls.nlp'
or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

It had an okay button that I was able to click.

EMET Notifier
EMET notifier has stopped working-Windows is checking for a solution to the problem.

This one had one of those green wait bars and it eventually went away on its own.

Hi Samwise,

2. I reloaded revo and ran as admin, it keeps asking for the serial number I got upon purchase. It opens a website but I don't see where I can even purchase it. You should not have to purchase Revo, it is a fully functional 30 day free trial. If it has been more than 30 days since you downloaded the program you may have to uninstall Revo, than reboot and proceed to download a fresh copy and install it.

4. FRST could not find the txt file, stating it needed to be in the same folder, so I found where FRST was hiding and dragged the text there and it seemed to work. Here is the log:Yes this can present a problem if the program is not saved to the desktop as instructed. In order for the fix script to work it needs to be saved in the same directory as the program. But you seem to have moved the fix script to the correct location to get the script to work properly. :bigthumb:

I uninstalled revo and reinstalled but got the same results. It also does not react when I try to right click and run as admin, this happened earlier as well.

Hi Samwise,

Check Program & Features in the Control Panel and see if Spybot is listed. If so uninstall it.

Go to the Start menu, in the search field type Spybot search & Destroy.
Under Programs see if there are any listings for Spybot. If there is right click ans select Delete.

Reboot

Do not re-install Spybot for now.

Yes, please proceed with the Sfc Scannow step.

There were several spybot files and folders that I deleted, although it was not in the list for programs to uninstall. I ran into problems with the .command. It did not respond when I tried to run it as an admin. I moved it to the desktop and it still did not work. I just clicked on it and the black box came up with this text:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Users\John>

But I did not do anything.

OCD
2014-02-18, 18:12
You need to be logged in with administrator privileges to run this command properly.

The elevated command prompt will open to C:\Windows\System32 and not C:\Users\(user name) as the default command prompt without administrator rights.

Do you have administrator privileges on this computer?

Samwise
2014-02-19, 02:32
Yes, I should. It is my computer and any one else who might use it logs in under my i.d. I will try to see if there is a different way to log on.

Samwise
2014-02-19, 02:35
Okay, I just verified, there is only one way to log on and it's under my password. I have been able to run many programs, as you instructed, as administrator in the past.

OCD
2014-02-19, 05:29
Hi Samwise,

System File Checker (SFC)

Click on the Start button and in the Search programs and files box type the following:

command

Don't press Enter, just let the search results populate above.
In the search results, locate the Programs section.
Locate the Command Prompt shortcut and right-click on it.
Select Run as administrator.
Click Yes on the User Account Control window that appears.
Important: If you see a User Account Control window but also a message that says To continue, type an administrator password, and then click Yes, then

your user account must be a standard account, not an administrator account. Before you can click Yes and open an elevated command prompt, you'll need to type the password of another

user on your Windows 7 computer that has administrator level privileges.
Note: You will not see this window at all if your User Account Control settings are turned all the way down. See How To Disable User Account Control in Windows 7 (http://pcsupport.about.com/gi/o.htm?

control-on-or-off) for more information.
An elevated Command Prompt window will appear.

Type: sfc /scannow (There's a space between sfc and /scannow.) , then hit Enter

After the scan runs type exit to close the command prompt window

Hi OCD,
I verified that I was set up with admin. privileges and attempted to run it, no response. I lowered my user account settings all of the way and still no response.

Hi Samwise,

That's seems a bit odd, let's try something different.

Let's see if we can get you to an elevated command prompt.

Follow the same instructions as before to open the command prompt window.
Next type "cd C:\Windows\System32" (without the quotes) next to C:\Users\John, then hit Enter.
If it works correctly you should have changed to this directory C:\Windows\System32
Then try and run the following step.
Type in "chkdsk /r" (make note of the space between chkdsk and /)

=========================

Reboot when finished

Samwise,

Create a new user account and give it administrator privileges. Then log into that account and see if you can get to the elevated command prompt. If so run the sfc /scannow step.

Hi Samwise,

Resolving this issues is proving to be a bit more difficult than I anticipated. I don't think malware caused the issue with your Administrator privileges, so let's be sure there is no malware present. Then if you like I can refer you to our Tech Team and see if they can sort out your Admin Privileges problem.

How is the computer running?
Are you receiving any error messages? If so, what are they.

Hi OCD,
Everything seems to be running fine. I guess I just won't reload the spybot I paid for? Is MS security essentials and no script sufficient?
