I have downloaded Free Spybot S&D and now I want to know what to do with it. I downloaded it because my Windows Security Program informed me that I had no anti-virus software although I thought it was a part of the Windows Security Center. I am running Window XP operating system.

It appears that Spybot has a lot of options. I did a complete scan but now that it has done the scan, what do I do. It listed about sixty threats and it asks now what to do with them, I guess. Am I to go down line by line and check off each individual line? I started doing that and after about ten, I must have done something because I somehow lost that page and could not find it again. It seems that the only thing that I seem successful at is starting another scan, which get old.

Is there no instructions on how to use Spybot S&D? There are a lot of messages trying to induce me into opting for a paid version, but why would I do that if I can't even understand the Free version.

Is Spybot even considered to be an anti-virus program?

I have been using Spybot S&D for at least 10 years and absolutely love it. I use it in addition to my anti-virus program; I believe the main function of Spybot is to detect spyware and malware. Until I purchased a new PC recently and downloaded the current version of Spybot I was still using version 1.x which looked a lot different than this version so, even though I have used Spybot for a long time, I am still looking through all the options. I found this on Spybot's website which may be helpful for you:

Hope that helps a bit and perhaps others will respond who are more familiar with this current version than I. Overall, however, I will definitely keep using Spybot as it has helped protect my PCs a long time.

I'd say it would help alot.Great post. :)

No,Spybot Free Edition isn't considered to be an antivirus, full virus protection is only included in the paid versions. There's a comparison chart here:

There's a list available of some free antivirus on this website:

(What is the proper grammer for a group of antiviruses, anyways?Antiviruseses?Antivirii?Antivirus'?Meh,I give up.)
If you decide to get one of the antivirus listed,it's usually best to just pick out one of them.

It should be okay to have an antivirus and Spybot free edition, though.

If you want to checkmark everything to be fixed, you can rightclick somewhere in the scan window and select Select All.
