I just bought my license in March 2014. I am afraid to update to 2.3 fear that it will wipe my license out.
Also I am having problems with the antivirus not being about to update.

Please advise!

Every time I've gone to a newer version,my license stays in place,as long as I don't delete the Spybot Search & Destroy 2 folder in Program Files manually. :)

As for the antivirus updates,I was having problems like a lot of other people, but I was having internet problems as well.Once that was all fixed up,I've downloaded the antivirus updates with no problems. So I guess my updating problems were not the same as others are having,so I can't really be helpful with that, unfortunately. :(
If you're getting 'An error ocurred during antivirus updates',a few people have posted about it here:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?70569-An-Error-Occured-During-Antivirus-Updates!
You could watch that thread and watch for any new developments on it.

Thanks for your reply.
I have started two things. I replied to a thread that had the exact error message when trying to update the antivirus and
two, I sent a ticket into the spybot team.

Hi

My problem doubled this morning. Now, "An Error Occurred during antispyware update" as well as, "An error occurred during Antivirus updates".

Also I am stuck in running 2.2

Probably best for you to wait for the reply from support after you sent in your ticket.to avoid confusion.
I'm not exactly sure how email support goes,I've never used it,but I assume after you get a reply, you can reply back and tell them you're having further problems.

I had banking to handle today so I could not wait for them.
It cost me a full renew price so 25.99.
They claim they gave me an extra month. Does not look that way to me but the upgrade to 2.3 and the like took care of my problems with updating.

Ultimately, MS systems are problematic in my opinion. I do not know UNIX yet.
They could give me a partial refund on the spybot upgrade because I had just started with professional in March 2014. I paid via paypal. Well it is working now

As far as I'm aware, when you upgrade to a higher version,it doesn't cost anything,as long as it's the same edition.
So,if you had Spybot Professional 2.2,then upgrade to Spybot Professional 2.3,there is no charge, the license you had would still be good for the 2.3 Professional version until the expiry date(365 days,or however long the license you purchased was for),so you ought not to have paid again, unless you were in contact with them and they said different.

However, the last time I looked it up for somebody on here, they have a "No refund policy."It's on this page:
http://www.safer-networking.org/terms-and-conditions/

But my comments are from one Spybot user to another, they're in no way official.Anything about pricing or policies,or refunds or the like has to be handled by one of the Spybot team. So,if you would like, discuss it with them when you get a reply email from support. :)

As the title mentions, they never replied to my inquiry. Was way would you have used to update simply from 2.2 to 2.3? That information was not clear to me and I was getting into financial exchanges with companies. I needed a secure system at the time.

That is kind of cold and callous for a business to take. In the past, I have referred spy-bot to friends and family. I may stop that practice now.

The only option that I saw was that I could have done that was the update spybot only. It was not clear to me that the antivirus aspect would not just disappear. This information was not in the instructions.

Thanks for your reply though!

I mentioned my own experiences upgrading from version to version in my previous post.If you weren't sure on it,or needed further instructions, just ask. :)

If you get a reply back from them via email, you could try emailing back, tell them what happened, and see what they say. That's what I'd probably do.Good luck with everything.

I finally got an email from a support person. I had uninstalled the version I was have no luck with because my version of Malwarebytes stopped loading or working at all.

The system rejects any free license because it sees the one that had the problem before. I am not sure why. Paypal refunded the May 2014 one so that is no good. But they did not refund the March 22 2014 one so that licenses is stilll good.
But it should not matter because a new free version license should override it. it does not.
Any ideas? I wrote and explained the whole paypal and license deal. I am Waiting to hear back.

any ideas?

Just keep working with your support person by email. :)

they are unresponsive. All they have to do is reject the March license and approve the free license or take the "problem with current license whammy off". This is beyond absurd

You'll have to work with your Spybot support person, since it's a license issue.I can't help you with it.They have to handle anything to do with that. :)
Make sure you have told them everything. You could even include links to your posts on here,if you would like to,to be sure they know everything they need to know.

The free version has no license file. If you want to delete the license files of a previous version, they are located in the installation folder. By default this is <Programfiles>\Spybot - Search & Destroy 2. There are two files called license.key and license.txt. If you delete these, you have a Free Edition.

Beadbud5000 told me he bought Spybot Pro in March of this year, then he was uncertain if he upgraded to Spybot 2.3 if he'd still have the antivirus part,so he bought again in May.His post is here:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?70570-Just-bought-a-license-in-March-Should-I-go-to-2-3&p=453114&viewfull=1#post453114

Then he started getting this in his logfile in June:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?70607-Cannot-update-antivirus-signatures&p=453597&viewfull=1#post453597

SDUpdSvc.exe [2014-06-04 08:59:19] [-] Licence issues prevented updates. Please contact Spybot support to quickly solve this issue.
I was wondering if he installed the March license files, and then had the May license files still in his Spybot folder,if that might have caused the license issues that is preventing him being able to get updates?

The problem now is that the license issue is just completely mucking up system. Spybot will not run, free or otherwise, Malwarebytes (paid version) will not open or run. They're support is equally inept now!!!!

The free version says the conflict exist. Are you denying my March 22 paypal payment? That is what I need to know because that is just throwing my 15.99 away! Let us make that perfectly clear...

Spybot still finds a conflict with a license even though it was deleted several times over. Malwarebytes was also removed and refunded from my system but now no antimalware system will run.

I should mind my own beeswax,but.......

That should fix the problem with the license file, giving you the free edition.

I'm unclear about why you are trying to run the free edition, though. This kind of seems like you'd prefer the home or pro edition you had:

If you'd prefer that one, then are you still in contact with Spybot support by email?
I'm also confused about what you mean when you say you have the free version. When you open Spybot start center, does it say Free Edition under the Spybot magnifying glass icon?

No I have no contact in Spybot support anymore. Between Malwarebytes crapping out and spybot support apparently unable to help by rejecting their own license, I have given up.

Heading for a Unix OP
