Hi, I have used Spybot for years, and today I cannot install updates. I have the checksum error. I followed your advice and went to another mirror, but it is the same. The file is downloaded, but at the installation I get deletefile failed, access denied, code 5.

Can you help, please? Thanks a lot

Hi jenleib,

!!! Bad Checksum ! problems can be overcome in most cases by changing the download server (site) as follows:

Do not click "Search for Updates" again.
Using the pull-down site selection menu (between the "Search for Updates" and "Download Updates" buttons) select another server.
After changing the download server click "Download Updates" again.
If you get another "Bad Checksum", repeated Steps 2 & 3 (using a 3rd or 4th server if necessary) until all updates are received.

Hi,
Thanks for your answer, but either I don't understand exactly or you don't answer my concern. I don't get anymore checksum but the other error message while installing.... Or is it the same?

Thanks a lot

Is the computer account you are using an Administrator of the computer?

Spybot S&D requires this for the updating to work, since the files are placed is sub-folders of C:\Program Files\ by default. The error you're getting sounds as if you don't have the rights to delete files in these folders, which would cause the downloads to fail once they attempted to replace those in the updates folder.

Hi jenleib,

Do you have Administrative rights on that machine ?
Which version of windows are you using ?
Did you try downloading the installer again ? It could be a bad download.

Please, says the exact error that it shows.

Hi,
Yes, I am the administrator too, but never use it, I am not very familiar.
I am using XP SP2.
I downloaded twice, from 2 different mirrors, one called Spybotsd1.4 and Spybotsd1.4 bis. I try to retrieve the exact error, but it seems the installation started but was not completed, I am asked to restart my computer. I will get back to you later tonight or tomorrow, with the exact and new information.

Thanks

This happens because Spybot is still open. Close spybot and then hit retry in the setup program
