Having some command service problems myself...did what most did on this site...Spybot, adaware, etc.

Seems like each situation is has to be uniquely handled - Yes? Or else Spybot would have built the fix into an update?

In any case, I would be greatly appreciative for any help that anyone could render.

In keeping with the standard protocol:

Welcome

Usualy when command service shows repeatadly it is becouse of the method ad-aware uses to remove it. It leave's a harmless registry key with modified permisions.
Please download and unzip Ren-cmdservice to your desktop.
http://downloads.subratam.org/Lon/ren-cmdservice.zip
Open the ren-cmdservice folder by doubleclicking it and then doubleclick the
ren-cmdservice.bat file to run the program.
A text will open when it is finished, Post it please.
Then restart the PC run SpyBot check for and fix any problems found.
When next you check for problems it wont or shouldnt be there.

Lonny,
Okay, I did as you asked, however, the txt file never opened. When I checked in the ren_cmdservice folder, I found a logit.txt file.

Here are the results from this file:

I will continue with your instructions and let you know if I'm seeing any more popups. I'll keep you posted as to what I find.

Much appreciated.

Lonny,

Alright...I'm getting somewhere, but I'm not sure what my problem is now. I did everything you asked, ran spybot when the computer came back up, fixed all encountered problems, immunized, then rebooted again.

I still get popups when I launch IE. They don't happen every time I navigate to a different site, but most certainly, I will get one, whenever I launch IE.

Here is my latest HijackThis log file:

Describe the pop-ups, how often you see one and where your at at the time.

Delete ren-cmdservice, folder and zip

Post a combofix log
1. Download this file - combofix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
If the log is large You might need to post half in one reply half in another.

Popups are very infrequent, and I normally will get one whenever I launch IE. They say one of two different things. The first one is some sort of pron/singles advert. the other is an IE window, with a client-side alert saying something about "Important Google Message Received" or something like that. Clicking okay on the prompt loads the IE window with some sort of prize claim form.

I normally catch the windows and close them before they have a chance to do anything (which may or may not help), however, the other night I inadvertantly left one open, and the Trojan Virus warnings began showing up in Symantec. At that time, scans of my system quaranteened and eliminated a .dll from my system32 folder. But the popup kept coming.

Here is the output from the combofix.exe.
