View Full Version : request help from remnant isnotify.exe etc stuff

serg3
2006-09-04, 16:10
Hi all,

i ran something dodgy on my computer and as such, i am requesting some help.
whatever it was, it installed isnotify, and the other is* stuff. i ran a few preliminary software programs to nail this bugger down, but it seems to have dodged the bullet.
sybot s&d, when i ran it in windows safe mode, seems to have removed it, but upon restarting my computer, running the free online virus checker and finding that my IE webbrowser was still redirecting me to syssecuritycenter (blah).
Attached are the following logs and such from hjt and pandasoft online scan.

Just to clarify, my problems are:
is*.exe software;
syssecurity IE hijack; and
windows update (i turned this off, yet it still keeps on asking me)

Thank you in advance for all the people who will/are helping me.
Regards Serg3.

NB: I removed a few (obvious) things from the logs below, for privacy issues.

Hello serg3,

Welcome to Safer Networking Forums :)

Looks like you have a couple of things going on here. Most probably you are dealing with the latest version of Vundo, which targets HijackThis so HijackThis doesn't show its related entries in a log.
Please navigate to your HijackThis folder. Rename your hijackthis.exe to analyse.exe
Reboot.
Then doubleclick analyse.exe and post the log from it in your next reply as well (this will be a HijackThis log of course)

Please download SmitfraudFix (http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip) (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Thanks,
tea

Hello,

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Thanks,
tea

Hello,

Did you make the last HiajckThis log in safe mode? If so, I need to see one made in normal mode, please. Also please let me know how it's running now. :)

Thanks,

thank you tea for all your help.

attached is a hjt log i just ran whilst running windows in normal mode.
It appears everything is alright now, but i would be good to get the aok from you.

Do you know if the winnotify (xp updates) are related to the malware or not? i tried turned updates off, and a couple days ago, when i did this, the little red shield didnt appear on the system tray.. is there any way of removing it?

cheers

Hello,

On the winnotify, is this an error message you're getting? Do you have the complete path for it?

Your Java is out of date, which leaves your computer open to infection. You have update 1, and we're on update 8 now.

Download the offline installer from HERE (http://javashoplm.sun.com/ECom/docs/Welcome.jsp?StoreId=22&PartDetailId=jre-1.5.0_08-oth-JPR&SiteId=JSC&TransactionId=noreg).
Accept the License Agreement
Select "Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language".
Save the file to your Desktop.
Next, uninstall your currently installed version from Add or Remove Programs.
If you have older versions listed uninstall them also. If you simply update to the new version,
it leaves the older version(s) still installed, complete with previous vulnerabilities.
- Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
Restart your system.
Install the new version by double-clicking on the file you downloaded.

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {a43385f0-7113-496d-96d7-b9b550e3fcca} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ixt1.dll (file missing)

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix Checked".

Perform an onlinescan with panda: (please use this scanner instead of any other scanner!)
Panda Online http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Post the contents of the Panda scan report in your next reply together with a fresh HijackThis log. Let me know how it's running. :)

Thanks,
tea
