Hello,

I am using Spybot Search and Destroy 2 (version 2.3.39.0) on my Windows 8.1 system.

And I have a question about something that I just recently noticed..

After Spybot 2 completes a scan, and say I click upon the "Save a scan log" option on the left part of my screen..

When my computer brings up various places on my system where I can save the log file.. in addition to my regular OS C: Drive, I can also see three other "locations" listed there that I have not seen before.

These other locations seem to have drive letters for them, like the OS C: Drive or my DVD RW Drive E:

What I see listed is:

OS C:
ESP D:
Local Disk X:
PBR Image Y:

Are these locations, ESP D:, Local Disk X: and PBR Image Y: actually Drive Partitions found on my OS C: Drive?

Each of them has a little white drive icon in front of it sort of like my OS C: Drive does.

I want to be sure of what I am looking at. And I am guessing they are Drive Partitions.

Is that what I am seeing?

I dont think I ever noticed them before.. did I accidently change a setting in Spybot 2, or maybe something in Windows 8.1?

When I bring up "This PC" the screen only shows OS C: and DVD RW Drive E: listed under Devices and Drives.

Do these locations sound like Drive Partitions, or are they something else?

Thank You for any Help

I think I found what those might be.Though,I'm on Windows 7,so I might be seeing something different. :)
Are you seeing a window showing Save Scan Log at the top,and then the drives/partitiions listed are on the side listed under Computer(or My PC)?

Thank you, Zenobia, for the reply! Yes, as you said, I see a window showing Save Scan Log at the top.. then the drives/partitions I mentioned are listed on the side listed under My PC.

You describe what I am seeing very well.

There are (of course) left and right parentheses around each of the Drive letters.. I did not type them my postings here as they appear as smiley icons in the text.

EDIT: The links you provided seem to confirm what I suspected about these locations being Drive Partitions.

I am reasonably sure that what I am seeing are actually Drive Partitions of my (OS) C: Drive, and they are protected hidden parts of the Windows Recovery Environment.

I did eventually speak to a Dell Technician and he said he believed that the Local Disk X:, and PBR Image Y: are simply part of the Windows Recovery Environment.. and are nothing to worry about.

I had not seen the ESP D: Drive/Partition at the time, so I could not ask him about that one.

I have no idea why Spybot 2 now showing me these items when I go to save a scan log text file, I don't believe it has shown them in the past.

So.. I am just trying to be sure, that what I am seeing here are indeed Drive Partitions, and nothing nasty that I should be concerned about.

Any other insights (from anyone) would be appreciated..

As I am just trying to identify these location as something safe and normal.

Thanks for any further replies.

I just want to be sure (to confirm if possible) what these locations are.

You're welcome. :)

Please see here for an explanation on your ESP D:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/p/19541254/20503911#20503911

You should be able to view your disk partitions in the upper window of Disk Management, also:
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/disk-management-windows-8.htm

What you're seeing in the Save Scan log window is a Navigation pane, which makes it easier to jump to other locations if you need to.The navigation pane is available elsewhere. If you were to open Notepad and go to Edit,Save As,then the Save As window should also show a Navigation Pane, too, and
OS C:
ESP D:
Local Disk X:
PBR Image Y:
should be available to be seen there, too,it shouldn't be Spybot specific.I don't think they're anything to worry about, the Dell technician covered what he/she thought Local Disk X: and PBR Image Y: were,ESP D: is covered in the Dell post, and OS C: is commonplace. :)

Thank You again! :) You have been most helpful! I had sort of figured that the locations were Drive Partitions, but it never hurts to ask around just to be sure.

I was hoping that they were not something horribly dangerous.

The only thing I can't quite understand is why I can see them now. (I don't think I Spybot ever showed them there before, but I guess I could be mistaken.)

Oh well.. I guess I will assume that they are simply "hidden" Drive Partitions on my (OS) C: Drive, and not worry about them.

Thank you once more for your time, and for the information you dug up.

Best Regards and God Bless
