I had Spybot S&D running for the last year but uninstalled when I purchased SpywareDoctor for fear the realtime protection they both deploy would conflict and cause me problems. But I really would like to reinstall Spybot and just run it as an on-demand scanner only.

I also run the following other software:

Windows XP V5.1.2600 SP2
AT&T/SBC Yahoo! DSL Browser (modified IE with IE 6.0 "driving")
SpywareBlaster v3.5.1
IE-Spyad
MVPS Hosts File
McAfee Personal Firewall v8.0.203 (WinXP FW OFF)
Avast!4.7 Home Free v4.7.871
Spyware Doctor v4.0 (all realtime Guards on)
Ewido 4.0 Free (on-demand)
SuperAntispyware v3.2.1028 (on-demand)

How should I configure Spybot to be sure it is not running at startup and is only available as an on demand scanner? I'm sure I'd want to leave Teatimer off. Since SpywareDoctor immunizes, I should NOT do this in Spybot? Will I need to turn off any other features in Spybot to avoid conflicts? Your advice is greatly appreciated. :)

If you reinstall Spybot, when it's being installed, the option to use teatimer is unchecked by default.
If you prefer not to immunize with Spybot, when the wizard gets to the part asking you to Immunize, just click next to skip immunization.
I don't think the bad download blocker would interfere. But,if you prefer to not use it,just click Immunize in Spybot once it's installed, and uncheck beside where it says "Enable permanent blocking of bad addresses in Internet Explorer."

Thanks for the speedy reply Zenobia. Will reinstall using your suggestions. You confirmed what I also thought needed to be done. Just wanted reassurance before proceeding. Will give it a try and see how it goes. Will make new post if encounter any problems. Thanks so much for your advice and to the developers for such a great free program!

Oh, one last question. Will I need to unload any file via msconfig to prevent it from automatically loading at startup? I can't remember.

No,you shouldn't have to disable anything using msconfig to keep Spybot from loading at start-up,if you leave teatimer unchecked.
There's an option to run Spybot itself at start-up in Settings(available in advanced mode),but that isn't set by default,so you should be good there.
You're welcome for the advice. :)

I just downloaded and all went well. Nothing running automatic in Task Manager for Spybot. Scanned my drive without a glitch. Thanks again.
