I was looking at an old post from 2007

http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?19155-Enteries-in-Hosts-File&highlight=hosts
that talks about the "Add Spybot S&D hosts list" button. I'm not finding that button. Is this something the current version doesn't have? Does Spybot maintain a Hosts file?

I ask because I'm using Chome browser and, if I understand correctly, immunization doesn't work with Chrome? Is this correct? Could you not do the same thing with Hosts file? Or should I switch to Firefox?

No,if you have Spybot 2 to 2.4,then these versions don't have the add hosts file button. But,that's just because the hosts file was added to immunization,so when you immunize,it will do the same thing as clicking the hosts file button.

I don't see Chrome listed in immunization,so I assume you are correct, immunization doesn't work with Chrome. However, when you immunize your hosts file, the sites listed in the hosts file should prevent any browsers you have from reaching the sites listed in the hosts file. Please see here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/faq/hosts-file/
I did see some references online to Chrome prefetching the dns cache. On this page, the person is using arch linux, but I assume it's the same in windows:
http://superuser.com/questions/723703/why-is-chromium-bypassing-etc-hosts-and-dnsmasq
So,if you wish you can follow the first answer listed there, just to be sure when/if you immunize your hosts file. :)

Okay, I think you're telling me that Spybot does indeed update the Hosts file when thru the immunization process. That's what I wanted to know.
