Hello guys,

I am new on the forum and I want to thanks every body that provides help here. Recently I got infected real bad with trojan, dialers, vundu, spyware, well you name it. I looked at the stickies and many of the threads and followed all the good advices given. Finally my computer looks to be ok. But i feel is still a little slow than it use to be. I don't know if it is because all the programs I had to installed. Iwill post a Highjackthis log to see if someone can tell me if my computer is OK now. I don't know how to analyze the log eventhoughI read many threads about it. I also have and Ewido log and a Smitfraud log prior and after cleaning. I tried runing Panda online but it always comes back with an error and does not run. I also ran old the online scans you guys recomended. Here is the Highjackthis report. Thanks all for the great help!!

Welcome to the forum, please be advised that most forums Pin the information you need at the top of the page. These two links are a must before you can proceed, but I suggest you review all Pinned (Sticky) information.
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=425
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288

Keep in mind we are volunteers and there are many more logs than we can get to. Most forums are running around 5 days, if you get responded to at all, see the link tashi has provided you which is also Pinned to the top:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=1137

Please do not bump your topic. (posting such as hello, anyone there, bump, nudge etc)
Doing so could actually delay a response as Helpers may think you are already being assisted because of the post count.

Post the ewido scan report and both SmitfraudFix logs for me to view.

How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs > uninstall PuritySCAN By OIN, OIN or OuterInfo or anything that looks like it. If you see any other programs you know do not belong there, uninstall them. If you are unsure, let me know and I will look. If you don't see any of that PurityScan junk to uninstall then download and run this uninstaller:
http://www.outerinfo.com/howto.html

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(some items may be removed by the uninstaller, I may check more than one time, just do not miss it)

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {8947AD0E-1F9F-4217-BDFD-1753ED8769C1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\otyxcot.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Xgvi] C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\?asks\r?ndll.exe
O20 - Winlogon Notify: wingdm32 - wingdm32.dll (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\?asks\ <<< delete that folder

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Post the logs I requested above, a new HJT log and your comments. How is the computer running now?

Thanks

Hello pskelley,

Sorry for the bump thing! I have actually done everything that has being posted on the pin threads for about a week before I decided to post and bother you guys asking for help. the problem is that my computer still takes a long time to load and open folders right after I reboot.
Thanks for helping me out. you guys are great!

I followed your instructions and ran the unistaller. I ran HJT and fix items in your post but the one that starts with 04. That one wasn't there. I didn't find the file mentioned below either.

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\?asks\ <<< delete that folder
Thanks

I ran the ATF and HJT again. I will post the report. I don't know if you want the ewido and Smitfraud prior or after the fix you suggested. The ones I have are prior to running this fix. If you want a new report let me know. I have run ewido, Norton 2006, SpybotSD, Vundu fix and the others and they come back OK. For some reason PAnda scan gives me an error i deleted the activeX intallation from PAnda and will try it again.

Also I noticed a file on my desktop that looks like a sproket with the name "thumbs.db". I have no idea what this is.

Post both SmitfraudFix reports so I can see the before and after, ewido I do not need to see cookies, System Restore stuff (we will clean that later) or anything in the recycle bin. I am looking for stuff ewido found and could not remove as a clue to any possible hidden malware.

Don't worry about files you could not find, the uninstaller probably removed it, I do a double check, now let's see that HJT log.

That's a clean HJT log:bigthumb: post those logs discussed earlier and let me know about any problems you are experiencing that are malware related.

Use your Google: http://www.google.com/ Search for thumbs.db = http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=thumbs.db&btnG=Google+Search

Thanks

That was what I needed to see, you used an outdated version of SmitfraudFix v2.84. Delete all SmitfraudFix on your computer then download v2.87 from here:
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix_En.php
Run the Search function and post that information for me. If nothing is located, you are done with it. If it finds anything run the Clean function.

ewido: C:\WINDOWS\system32\qiarwclp.exe -> Not-A-Virus.Downloader.Win32.WinFixer.r : Cleaned with backup (quarantined).
I hope that is not a clue that a Vundo trojan is hiding, I see nothing in the HJT log and you would know it was there because of the constant popups. Navigate to the quarantine folder and delete the contents.

There will be constant firewall and modem activity as programs that need to access the internet that belong to Microsoft or your security reach out for information. As long as nothing bad gets by your security, that is what is important. Word has it that Smitfraud tricks the user with bad Codec files, if you are not sure about the origin, do not download anything.

As soon as we are sure Smitfraud is gone, and all is running normally, I'll have some great information to help you stay safe and get you on your way.

Thanks...Phil

Pskelley, I downloaded new version of Smitfraud. I ran a scan and I think it found something. I did a clean and then just to be sure I ran it again in safe mode. I also ran ewido after and it came back clean. I have not seen any pop ups so I don't think I have a vundo but my computer is still very slowwhen booting up and opening files. I notice this happends at the begining but after I open some of them it run better. Could it be that Norton and Ewido are set to scan programs and files when they try to lunch? Could this slow my computer so much? Here are ths Smitfraud reports. Thanks for your help.

Could it be that Norton and Ewido are set to scan programs and files when they try to lunch? Could this slow my computer so much? Norton we can't do much about, but ewido can be disabled anytime you wish to make sure it is not it. I am looking at the log now to see if I spot anything and then will post some links to information that might help. It could also be Windows Defender, If you wish to take the time, you can turn off programs starting like this: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: one by one to see if you can find one that is causing it.
From here I can see these programs are booting everytime and probably not needed everytime?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [GWMDMMSG] GWMDMMSG.exe
http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-1367.html
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-2547.html
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install
http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-2564.html
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdaptecDirectCD] C:\Program Files\Adaptec\Easy CD Creator 5\DirectCD\DirectCD.exe
http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-117.html
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Ink Monitor] C:\Program Files\EPSON\Ink Monitor\InkMonitor.exe
http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-1610.html
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit
http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-2559.html
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_08\bin\jusched.exe
http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-3552.html
(you must update Java manually if you turn this off)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [!ewido] "C:\Program Files\ewido anti-spyware 4.0\ewido.exe" /minimized
Not needed, turn it off in services (Run and type services.msc)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [swg] C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\1.0.720.3640\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe
(no info on this, it may need to run? it is booting everytime)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [E6TaskPanel] "C:\Program Files\EarthLink TotalAccess\TaskPanl.exe" -winstart
(probably needed for convience?) http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-1058.html
O4 - Global Startup: Kodak software updater.lnk = C:\Program Files\Kodak\KODAK Software Updater\7288971\Program\Kodak Software Updater.exe
I doubt this needs to update everytime, you can update Kodak manually
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=210875

As you can see there is a load of stuff that is part of the startup process everytime besides what normally needs to start. If you tinker with MSConfig I suggest doing one or two at a time and watching for any negative reaction for a day or so before moving on.

Here are some links that may help:

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

http://cybercoyote.org/security/not-admin.shtml

ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

You should be good to go, safe surfing...tashi:) will close the topic in a day or so.
