Malware, Virusburstdotcom & hjt file

My computer started running slow about two weeks ago. My browser was hijacked about a week later. That seems to have been resolved but a persistant icon in the systray directs me to virusburst.com website to buy malware software. Spybot and AdAware keep finding problems. McAfee keeps finding and cleaning trojan programs.

I think I have followed your instructions and provided the files you need for assistance. Please let me know if you require addtional info.

2) Since you mentioned Virusburstdotcom this tool will search for Smitfraud and let us know if it is there.
Please download SmitfraudFix (http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip) (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Download SDFix (http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.zip) and save it to your Desktop.

Right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services or Registry Entries found then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt.
Finally copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log


Make sure you restart the computer, then post the results of the Smitfraud Search, the Report.txt from the SDFix and a fresh HJT log. Add any comments you think will help, we may have more to do?

I think I ran everything as requested. All log files should be posted with this reply. I have been running Spybot and McAfee Virus scans religiously the past 3 or 4 days. Virus scans caught a couple of things are were deleted. Blinking icon in systray (VirusBurstdotcom issue) has stopped. Spybot keeps noting an item in the registry called 'Bearshare'. Spybot will not delete this.

Where is the log from the SDfix? Post it then follow the instructions in this link. No need to run the SEARCH function again,you know it is there.

Follow the directions in this link: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=4015 When you finish the instructions, post the three logs in this same topic using the "Post Reply" button.

Spybot-S&D: Be sure to follow the directions to save the scan report but do not post it here unless requested by a helper.

ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
