View Full Version : Scan hanging when at "Ad.Jpdesk downloaded files..."

After having used Spybot 1.6.2 for YEAAAAAAAAAAAARS I decided it was finally time to go to the new version 2.4. Unfortunately, the very first scan I try to do immediately gave me problems. It says "Ad.Jpdesk downloaded files..." and under that something like 1464 minutes left. I waited for about 15 mins, but nothing seemed to progress.

So, I used Process Monitor (Sysinternals / Microsoft) to check what was going on. It seems it's in a loop.
I have attached a snippet of the log you can open with Process Monitor.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hello S.H.Bouwhuis,

At this time I don't have Sysinternals Process Monitor installed, have you tried another scan? :)

What is the operating system please.

Best regards.

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
Locale United States
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3801 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
16.0 GB Physical RAM
16.0 GB Page file
120 GB SSD

I have attached the log file as a CSV file so you can more easily view it.
I would, however, STRONGLY suggest you install Process Monitor (it's free). It's really indispensable for ANYONE involved in software development.

Yes I know the program very well. ;-)

Is that png showing the original scan or the result of another attempt to run one?

Kind regards.

Another attempt.

It first goes through a whole progress bar where it checks (I guess) the registry.
Then, it continues with (I guess) the files and it gets stuck.

I'm having the same issue.

Spybot completes a whole system scan, then starts again and stops at 0.8%

Then in the status bar is says Scanning for "4E2AF2AC" and " Ad.JpDesk downloaded files...."

Above that, to the left of the start a scan/fix selected buttons is says "Scanning for System Service Win32.ZBot"
and "Estimated Time left 21226 Minutes"

I've had no positive hits on anything else, I've used malware bytes, Eset online scanner, Microsoft's one whose name escapes me and AVG.

Do you think it's a bug in spybot?

Hello davan28,

If you contact support the information might prove useful. :)

I don't suppose you know what kind of turn around time support takes? I'm having a full blown anxiety attack over this.

Ok, I created a support ticket. But, because I use the free version they may not help me. Davan, do you have a license?

Sadly no. I got fed up of waiting and I had a few other issues with the computer I couldn't fix so I just did a system refresh. If that doesn't work, I'm going to do a clean-install.

Actually, I already did a clean install myself last week. After the clean install and updating Windows (200+ updates) I tried SB only to find it not working properly.

I got a reaction on my ticket and they suggested I try in Safe mode.
I did, and it worked.
I asked the support guy whether I should create some sort of debug log in normal mode.

I'm awaiting his answer.
