An icon saying "Post Win10 Spybot-install" appeared on my desktop after I reverted back to windows 7 from 10. Any reason why it appeared? Do I need to uninstall the installed version and run that?

Hello Bdawg01, :welcome:

The icon appears after a Windows 10 installation. Which version of Spybot do you have and is it running normally since you rolled back to Windows 7?

Version: http://www.safer-networking.org/shop/

Best regards.

Post Windows 10 install, I upgraded Spybot to the 2.5 version, which is supposed to include Windows 10 fixes.
But since the upgrade, when I try to update Spybot virus protection I get error messages saying my virus protection is never updated. How to fix?

Are you running Spybot as an administrator?

You can do this by right-clicking the Spybot icon and choosing the option to "run as administrator". This must be done to allow Spybot access to certain areas on your PC, and to allow it to remove files when it detects malware.

If this does not work, this could be a proxy issue.

Please go to:
Start Center > Settings (tick "Advanced User Mode" if you do not see "Settings") > Internet Protection

In Internet Protection, please untick "Use Spybot Proxy" and "Use own proxy to download updates" if either of these is ticked.

Click "Apply" and "OK" and restart Spybot.

If this does not work, Spybot may not have been reinstalled correctly during the upgrade process to Windows 10. Please uninstall and reinstall Spybot using the instructions below to see if this solves your issue.

Please go to our uninstall tool page at:
https://www.safer-networking.org/support/missing-files/uninstall-tool/

Here, download all 3 files; "unins000.exe", "unins000.msg" and "unins000.dat".

These will download to your Downloads folder or other default location.

Copy these files to your Spybot program folder at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Spybot - Search & Destroy 2

or for 32-bit PCs:
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy 2

If this folder does not exist, please create a new folder here and rename it "Spybot - Search & Destroy 2". This will require administrator permissions. You can then copy the files to this folder.

Once these have been copied, run "unins000.exe" (the one in your Spybot program folder) as an administrator to remove any traces of Spybot from your PC.

You can then download Spybot 2.4 from the link below:
http://spybot-mirror.com/files/spybot-2.4.exe

This can be upgraded to version 2.5 by running this file:

As above, except that I didn't, (as far as I am aware!), change my OS from the Win8.1 which was previously/is installed on my notebook. The unwanted icon appeared immediately after I had installed what I thought was the latest edition of Spybot. I can't locate where the icon lies within the system to delete it! Any help would be appreciated for my housekeeping :thanks:

Please double check to make sure your operating system is Windows 8.1 and not Windows 10.
