I have ran the panda online scan with the following results:
message location
adware:adware/2search C:\windows\system32\feeds
adware:adware/emediacodec C:\program files\media-codec
adware:adware/systemdoctor windows registry
When I tried to run spybot in safe mode, the following message came up:
This file does not have a program associated with it for proforming this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.
This message comes up when I try to open any program.
Is my next step to save my data and reformat the hard drive.

G'Day mate and Welcome to the forum, this information: adware:adware/emediacodec C:\program files\media-codec indicates that Smitfraud has probably infected your computer. I would suggest you follow these directions in this link:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=4015 When you finish the instructions, post the three logs in this same topic using the "Post Reply" button.
When you run the Search insturctions in #5 you should see instances of the infections have been found. This being the case continue with the fix and post the suggested logs at the end. If there should be NO Smitfraud located, then post that frist report along with a HJT log for me to look at.
Spybot-S&D: Be sure to follow the directions to save the scan report but do not post it here unless requested by a helper.

the computer I'm communicating with you is my laptop.I can log onto the net through windows defender(on my desktop) after I install it but I have to go through this routine every time I try to download a fix.For some reason I can run this program but nothing else! I can download the programs you indicate but cannot run them. The error message comes up when I hit the run key. Sounds terminal ah.

Went to TomCoyote link. Downloaded the exe association fix to my laptop thumb drive. Unzipped the file on my desktop in regedit. This fixed my exe problem. Ran spybot,ad-aware and updated my virus software. Seems to have fixed the problem. I'll keep an eye on it and let you know if there are any more problems.

Thanks for the feedback, I can not say anything about the HJT log without seeing it. I am glad to hear you could resolve the issue opening .exe's. The information you posted. Alexa: toolbar built into Internet Explorer, I don't use it myself, consider it a resource waster and always have Ad-aware remove it. (part of IE thanks to Microsoft and who they sleep with, so it gets put back if you restore or reinstall IE). The rest are cookies, use this information to stop storing them if you wish:

Keep in mind, if you need cookies for passwords, banking, etc. you must override for those or those accounts will not function.

Log looks good, use HJT to get rid of this dead line:
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
O21 - SSODL: hubbsi - {7b1eeccd-0a6d-4ad5-8ac1-4af5722b3885} - (no file)
Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
