Win10 Pro, Ver 1511 (New Major Update Nov 12) - Removes SpyBot. Compatibility Issue?

Using Windows 10. Today, major update to Win10 Pro, Ver 1511, OS Build 10586.3.
Once Win update was complete it informed me that SpyBot had been removed and Win Defender was turned on.
Then presented with list of Consumer Security Software Providers that does not include Safer-Networking/SpyBot.

This Win10 update was announced by Microsoft Nov 12 on Facebook. "First Major Update for Windows 10 Available Today: http://wndw.ms/c9k383 "

(I have a licensed version of SpyBot 2 Pro.)

So, is SpyBot 2 truly not compatible with Win10? Tell me it's not so...

Spybot continues to be compatible with Windows 10. However, this update appears to uninstall Spybot and a number of other programs on certain users' PCs. Spybot is listed in the MS Consumer Security Software Providers for Win10 list you provided.

You should be able to download and reinstall Spybot again from here:
http://spybot-mirror.com/files/spybot-2.4.exe



If for some reason this does not work, please try uninstalling and reinstalling Spybot using the instructions below to see if this solves your issue.


Please go to our uninstall tool page at:

Here, download all 3 files; "unins000.exe", "unins000.msg" and "unins000.dat".

These will download to your Downloads folder or other default location.

Copy these files to your Spybot program folder at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Spybot - Search & Destroy 2

or for 32-bit PCs:
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy 2


Once these have been copied, run "unins000.exe" (the one in your Spybot program folder) as an administrator to remove any traces of Spybot from your PC.


You can then download Spybot 2.4 from the link below:
http://spybot-mirror.com/files/spybot-2.4.exe

This can be upgraded to version 2.5 by running the "Post Windows 10 Spybot-install" file on your Desktop.

I was browsing this as I suffered the removal on Nov 12th upgrade of my Win10 m/c, but simply went ahead and re-installed. However as my m/c was supplied ready with Win10, I did not know whether to run the "Post Windows 10 Spybot-install" .
Following your reply, I now assume that I should do this, regardless of the source of Win10 (OEM or Upgrade from other Win version).
Is this correct please?

Ken - Since I submitted my post I've installed SpyBot on one computer after the Win 10 Upgrade to Win 10 Build 1511. That worked just fine. Subsequently, I've also purchased a new computer and done clean Win 10 install. That one also went through Win 10 Build 1511 upgrade. In the latter case the "Post Windows 10 Spybot-install" auto-magically ran and reinstalled SpyBot. Regardless, I'd say yes, you should run the "Post Windows 10 Spybot-install". In the end I end up with SpyBot ver 2.5 fully installed. You will need to run SpyBot Update (perhaps more than once until no errors and no additional updates are available). Then run Immunization, as you probably know.

What I have done was to uninstall the Spybot I had installed, and after the re-start the "Post Windows 10 Spybot-install" ran without prompting and installed version 2.5.42.130. I skipped trhe Whitelist creation as this is what takes up the time, but may well create it after I have done a full scan of the system.

Ken - Sounds like it worked correctly. As I recall, the whitelist should only be created for a system where you are absolutely certain that there is nothing malicious present. SpyBot will bring up a note to that effect. Be sure to read that carefully. If you happen to whitelist a malicious bit of code, you know, not good.
