Is Spybot the cause for 100% CPU usage

Hello, since installing Spybot Search and Destroy free edition, the on screen display shows that I am regularly reaching 100% CPU usage. Rarely does it go below 50% even before I access any web sites.

Is this due to Spybot? If so, is there any way to reduce its activity? Accessing sites is often frustratingly slow now.

Which on screen display is showing the CPU? :)

Have you tried disabling Spybot to have a before and after CPU reference?

What is the operating system and do you have other security programs installed.

Thanks for the reply.

The only other product running, as far as I'm aware, is Microsoft Essentials. It is the Spybot "rocket" emblem that displays CPU and RAM usage. Oddly enough, this emblem isn't displaying this morning and I'm not hearing the processor working hard as it does when the emblem is displayed and shows high CPU usage.

When the emblem returns and shows high CPU usage, I'll disable Spybot and see if that makes a difference.
