Hello,
I'm not very good with computers, so let's just get that straight.
I need to remove my safetyhomepage.com virus. My friend has tried to remove it but it's still there. How do I permanently delete it?

h-hello? :(

Welcome to the forum. Please follow these directions, and I would suggest you seek help from someone with more experience if you need it.

It would appear you have not read these instructions:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=425
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288

Please do not bump your topic. (posting such as hello, anyone there, bump, nudge etc)
Doing so could actually delay a response as Helpers may think you are already being assisted because of the post count.

1) Move HJT from the Desktop for safety. I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, if you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

2) Please download SmitfraudFix (http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip) (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm (http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm)

Here is a tutorial if it helps:

Thanks

NO NO NO! I did all that, but when i try to open SmitFraudFix.cmd it opens a black cmd for half a millisecond and closes it again! It doesn't work. At. All.
So what do I do?!

Well, we have a situation where you can not run the tool I am providing, what do you suggest? This Smitfraud tool has been created by a Frenchman and is being used countless times daily to remove this infection. It is possible you did something wrong downloading or that your antivirus program blocked the process.exe as described in the tutorial. That being the case, delete what you have and download it again and just before you download, turn off the antivirus program, download the tool and turn the antivirus program on again (don't forget). Once you have it, look at the tutorial I provided to make sure everything is in the folder. We have a case of a nail that needs to be driven, and I have handed you a hammer. You are telling me that the hammer will not work. I would be glad to listen to any suggestions you have.

Thanks

I did exactly what you did, and I quit AVG Free edition (it was on my bottom-right corner of my sceen on the toolbar). Then when I re-downloaded smitfraudfix and did what is said on the tutorial, it still did the same thing. I don't know what else to do - i did cntrl+alt+dlt and went to task manager to delete files like avgamsvr.exe, avgupsvc.exe, and evgemc.exe, but it ways 'the operation can not be completed. access denied.' What should I do now? :/ Just so you know my programs installed are avg free edition, ad-aware, and spybot, just in case you need to know that.

Look at the tutorial for SmitfraudFix that you downloaded new. Compare your folder with the one in the tutorial. Tell me if all of the necessary componants of the fix are present on your computer.

I wish I could help you more, but unfortunately I am not in front of your computer. I just downloaded the file and unzipped it and everything was there. I suggest you delete everything and try again. Make sure you SAVE the file to the Desktop for ease of working with it. If you have someone with more computer experience that can help, I would ask for it. I would have to believe the fix is not going to work if all necessary files are not there.
You have very detailed pictures and instructions.

Thanks

i re-downloaded it, and all the files are there again. but even though, when i try to open smitfraudfix.cmd it does the same thing. if you really don't know what to do, it's alright - i guess i will live with it. thanks anyways!

Well, let's give another tool a try, we seem to have tried hard enough to get this one to work. Remove everything you downloaded for Smitfraudfix first.
I want to point out that I see no evidence in your log of the infection, that is not abnormal, often it is hidden, but there are normally a few items, and when there is not, Smitfraudfix runs a search function. If nothing is located at that time, we do not proceed with that Fix. All I can do is suggest you give this fix a try and see what happens.

Thanks to noahdfear and any others who helped with smitRem

Download smitRem.exe (http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/click%20counter/click.php?id=1) ©noahdfear, and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm) on your desktop (in Internet Explorer, right click on Panda ActiveScan link select "Copy Shortcut" then right click on your desktop and select "Paste Shortcut" or in FireFox right-click the link and select "Save Link As" and save it to your desktop).

Please download the trial version of ewido anti-malware here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/)

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions (http://rstones12.geekstogo.com/ewidosetup.htm)
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup (http://rstones12.geekstogo.com/adawareSE_setup.htm)
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items and click FIX CHECKED:
===================================================
There are no items in the HJT log to remove so skip over the HJT portion of the fix.
===================================================

Close HiJackThis.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Launch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut.
Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
A new window will open...click the Check Now button.
Enter your Country
Enter your State/Province
Enter your e-mail address and click send
Select either Home User or Company
Click the big Scan Now button

If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
When the download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of smitfiles.txt and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.

Thanks

Listen up, I am getting a little frustrated with your inability to use the tools I am providing. You are also posting information I am not even requesting! I am not sure I can help you with your problems and you might want to start thinking about other methods, including reformatting because when you can't run these tools there is some kind of problem causing it.
Post that ewido scan report, edit out all cookies and anything dealing with System Restore and post the balance, and do not post anything else I do not request. I would also like you to tell me how I am supposed to help you under these circumstances? You started this repair off telling me what you could not do!

Safetyhomepage.com virus - I CAN NOT OPEN SMITFRAUDFIX!
Thank you

Thanks for the ewido information. I can appreciate the fact that you are not a computer expert, but we all have to start somewhere. Seven or eight years ago I did not know how to plug one in. Unfortunately, the remote repair forums may not be the best place to learn. Without being able to use any of the tools it is most difficult for me to repair your problems. I suggest you seek local professional help with your problems. Having said that, I will continue and try a few things, but I am in no way making any promises.

We will start with a new HJT log and I want you to describe your malware issues in as much detail as possible. If you are receiving error messages, I want you to post them "word for word". Please post only the information I request.

Thanks

my problems are that every time i do a virus scan it ALWAYS picks up the spyware (zlob and myzor) and it's undeletable, and in my IE there's still the OPTION to have the safety toolbar in my toolbars. luckily i don't use IE, but it still worries me.

Provide me the names of the programs finding these items, and the locations (pathway) of them. Post that information, along with that information, post a copy of the ewido scan report ran in Safe Mode, edit out any cookies it locates:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html

AFTER you have posted the above information, follow these instructions:

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
If the log is large You might need to post half in one reply half in another.

Thanks
