Welcome to the forum, this log was posted while is Safe Mode, I need to see all logs in Normal Mode with everything enabled in MSConfig and NO formating unless I request otherwise.

Follow the directions in this link: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=4015 When you finish the instructions, post the three logs in this same topic using the "Post Reply" button.

Spybot-S&D: Be sure to follow the directions to save the scan report but do not post it here unless requested by a helper.

Thanks...pskelley

Thank you for your patience with me. I must have been following instructions from a different thread.

I have followed your directions up to a point, but I can't seem to get any further.

I have dowloaded the three software programs listed in the thread you directed me to: HijackThis, SmitfraudFix and Ewido anti-malware.

I ran SmitfraudFix - search and have the rapport.txt file it created.

I then rebooted into Safe Mode, but that is where my problem arose. I have tried it several time, and every time, upon loading windows, I just get a black screen with the words "Safe Mode" in white in all four corners and my build version of Windows XP at the top of the screen. I can't do anything except bring up the Task Manager. It shows several running Processes (Explorer is not one of them), but the system is sort of in limbo.

I am able to reboot and bring up the system in "normal" mode, but the Safe Mode will not finish booting properly. I am unsure whether I should continue the directions in normal mode or not (ie; run SmitfraudFix-Clean and Ewido). Please advise. Thank you!

OK, I understand and I will post links where you can look at how to successfully access safe mode. This is your computer's diagnostic mode and your should be able to reach it. If, after you try these examples, you still cannot get into "Safe Mode", then run the tools in normal mode and we will see what happens. They will do a better job for you when all of the programs that lanch in normal mode are not running.

Thanks for returning the information, this looks like we have a vundo infection to deal with:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cbxxutu.dll -> Adware.Virtumionde ewido can show it to us, but can not remove the junk. There is also one toolbar related to Smitfraud that did not come out, the hackers keep changing the junk faster than Siri can update the tool:
O3 - Toolbar: Safety Bar - {052b12f7-86fa-4921-8482-26c42316b522} - C:\Program Files\Safety Bar\SafetyBar.dll we will remove it once the Vundo infection is gone. Please read and follow the instructions carefully. If the tool can not remove (recognize) a bad file the first time, it will the second or the third. Sometimes it needs to run several times. The scan report will tell you once all has been deleted.

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

Thanks

Thanks, darn stuff was there, wasn't it. Looks like you got it all. Let's do this:

1) Java version is 1.5.0.2, Java version is 1.5.0.4, Java version is 1.5.0.6, Java version is 1.5.0.8
Uninstall all of the old Java installations, keep only the newest one. That is how Vundo got in so keep it up to date.

2) This will help you control cookies in Internet Explorer.

If you run Firefox, this is the information:

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {a43385f0-7113-496d-96d7-b9b550e3fcca} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ixt0.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {DB499BF8-9B79-42F9-AC92-3610CA3E0978} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvtt.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

If all is back to normal, you are good to go, good job:bigthumb: Safe Surfing...tashi:) will close the topic in a few days.

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
