Going round in circles

Just purchased the home edition to add to my previous free edition..
Downloaded ok..but is still showing free edition...
Tried to download two or three times..to no avail..do I have to ...delete the whole lot and start again or what?
Did get a message that said it can't be used with this windows edition..whatever that is???
