Recently about 50% of computer starts result in the Scanner Service not starting up despite the 'Active after every Reboot' being checked . The only way this is noticed is when the Spybot Proxy refuses any connections. This means going into the settings, restarting the Scanner Service manually and then also rechecking the Spybot Proxy as this will have unchecked itself. If I investigate before trying to connect Firefox, and the scanner is inoperative, then after re-starting it the proxy remains live. This has been going on for a couple of months now and I have tried a complete remove and re-install without success, so it is starting to get irritating.

Hello ken turbine,

As you have Avast AV installed is this Spybot Free, the 2x version? https://www.safer-networking.org/

Best regards. :)

Hi Tashi,

Sorry, I should have been explicit about the version, but I have been using Spybot so long that I forget how many variants there are now.

Yes, it is Spybot Free 2.4.40.0

Best Regards,
Ken

Hi Tashi,

Just for completeness I have Stopped, Applied, and re-Started and Applied all 3 Services, and carried out the same procedure with the check boxes.
I will report if the problem persists.

Hi Tashi,

Just restarted, and the problem looked worse as the 'Security Center Service' also was shown as Stopped. I will submit a ticket and see what comes out of it.

Hi

Apologies for not posting this response from the Team Spybot earlier so others can benefit from the answer

We apologise for the inconvenience.

There are known issues with the Spybot Proxy therefore we recommend to leave it disabled.

Please uninstall Spybot then re-install a fresh copy

In order to completely uninstall Spybot - Search & Destroy, please see the following link:
http://www.safer-networking.org/faq/how-to-uninstall-2/

Open the Control Panel then go to Programs and Features.

You can open the Control Panel by using Search in the Start Menu.

Here you can uninstall Spybot 2.

After the uninstallation, restart your machine then delete the following folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Spybot - Search & Destroy 2

You can then re-download and install Spybot from the link below:
https://www.safer-networking.org/spybot2allocator.php

Please run the file to install your Spybot license.

It is possible that Avast could be conflicting with Spybots Scanner Service.

Please temporarily disable Avast's real time protection to see if issue still persists.
