View Full Version : Anti-Virus
Hello,
I am considering paying for Spy-Bot Home edition. I am concerned about the Anti-Virus feature.
I have an Anti-Virus program I am happy with. I have been using Spy-Bot free edition. So I am wanting to ask. Is it possible to get the enhanced Malware features of Spy-Bot, but not the Anti-Virus ? I am concerned the two Anti-Virus programs will conflict with each other.
Thanks,
Wayne
No, it's not possible to get Spybot Home without the antivirus. However, if you wanted to still get Spybot Home +AV while keeping your current antivirus, what you could choose to do is disable either Spybot's Live Protection, or if your antivirus has real-time protection, you could choose to disable that, whichever you prefer, so that there is only one real-time/live protection running. That is so that there would not be two real-time protection components running on your computer at the same time, which could use up resources and cause conflicts. Please see here. :)

Hello,
I paid for and downloaded spybot Home license. I tried to execute it. I told me It was protecting my system from an unrecognized app ?

That sounds like it might have been Windows Defender Smart Screen. Did you see something similar to this? :)

If so, then there is a page about Windows Defender Smartscreen available here:
https://www.itsupportguides.com/knowledge-base/windows-10/windows-defender-smartscreen-prevented-an-unrecognized-app-error/
There's a section on how to run an app smartscreen prevents anyways, titled:
How do I run an application SmartScreen has prevented?
If you’re absolutely sure you can trust the application you can run it by clicking on the ‘More info’ link and then click the ‘Run anyway’ button.
If you would like to try again, you could re-download the license from the email Safer-Networking sent you, and execute it again, and then use the workaround listed on the smartscreen page to run it. If you no longer have that email, or you don't believe the message is coming from Windows Defender Smartscreen or are feeling uncertain in any way, shape or form, please let me know. :)
