Also ewido would not run in "safe mode" for some reason. Tryed twice, SpyBot SSD claimed to clean things up but "NOT"

Welcome to the forum, you have a bunch of nasties including what looks like a Qoologic trojan, possible Look2me infections and this nasty from MediaMotor.n that was an active infected link I had to fix. If you are not receiving help at another forum, let's start like this. I suggest you keep this computer offline as much as possible until you are clean.
Thanks to sUBs and anyone who helped with this fix.
1. Download this file - combofix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
If the log is large You might need to post half in one reply half in another.
Post a new HJT log along with that. Add any comments you think will help.
Thanks
Thanks for your response "pskelly"
I will first describe what happens running combofix (tried twice)
It detects at least 2 infections (one being surfsidekick) and then I get a message that combofix will be back in "at least 10 seconds" the window closes and never returns. Waited at least 10 minutes .... at this point I reboot.
1) ? Does it take a hour and then return?
2) ? If it does create a logfile would it be on the desktop? (where I launched it)
I will be happy to try again, but confidence is LOW
This is a friends PC that I'm trying to fix so I will test ASAP.
As far as other Forums " you are my only hope" at this point.
Thankyouverymuch

Combofix cleans a variety of malware at once, anything else is more time consuming and difficult. Make sure you save it to the Desktop and that you follow the instructions exactly, especially those in red. Give it another try.
Thanks
OK ..... I will try it a third time
Any Idea how long I should wait after the CMD window disappears before rebooting?
Should it be run in safe mode ?
Thanks

I guess I will have to run it on one of my computers, but I never have any malware for it to remove. The creator posted these instructions at BleepingComputer, sorry I can't link you, it's for helpers only:

Combofix.exe is a point & shoot thingy. The instructions are simple enough

Hope that helps. I can see no reason to run it in safe mode, but you can try to see what happens if you wish. Anytime anyone has had a problem, it normally ran fine the second try.
Unfortunately I did not get any log file from combofix, it performed as described previously. I made 4 attempts .... 3 in safe mode.
Here is the screen output and the latest HJT log
Combofix output to screen: (after entering Y in the startup screen)
Combofix will now perform a scan of your computer
Look2Me orphaned entries found!!!
SurfSideKick!!!
Duce6.exe infected
(screen clears)
Combofix will now exit and return in no more than 10 seconds
(window disappears and no further disk activity is observed)
Subsequent runs did not display the Duce6.exe infected line above.
I rebooted to normal mode and ran HJT .... the log follows:

We'll give it a go without it, you have a live infected 016 item, I will edit the link to kill the active link.
Let me know if you placed those three items in the 015 "Trusted Zone".
1) Windows 2000
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.
2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
3) ewido may block changes we must make, turn off the guard: First disable Ewido, as it might be trying to interfere...
Under 'Your security status', if the real time protection is active, deactivate it by clicking 'real time protection' until the status says 'inactive'
Do you own ewido or is this a trial?
4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://rd.yahoo.com/customize/sbcyds...search/ie.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{A8BD6820-6ED7-423E-9558-2D1486B0FEEA} - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {A8BD6820-6ED7-423E-9558-2D1486B0FEEA} - (no file)
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe, C:\WINDOWS\System32\qxhqu.exe
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,bsnugjx.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [win32107-193650138] C:\WINDOWS\win32107-193650138.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Orao] "C:\MYDOCU~1\CURITY~1\winlogon.exe" -vt yazr
O16 - DPF: {5526B4C6-63D6-41A1-9783-0FABF529859A} - ms-its:mhtml:file://c:\nesunem.mht!http://http<font color="Red">XXXXXX<.../joysavsht.cab
O20 - Winlogon Notify: App Paths - C:\WINDOWS\system32\k6lqlg3516.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: cfgmgr32 - C:\WINDOWS\system32\i860lijm18oa.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: IPConfTSP - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hrnu0559e.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: URL - C:\WINDOWS\system32\dn0801due.dll (file missing)
Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:
(files/folders may be gone, just do not miss them)
C:\WINDOWS\win32107-193650138.exe <<< delete that file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\qxhqu.exe <<< delete that file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\bsnugjx.exe <<< delete that file
C:\MYDOCUMENTS~1\CURITY~1\ <<< delete that folder
Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Now I would like you to update ewido and run it in safe mode. Delete anything it locates unless you know it is not bad:
Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
Under "Reports"
Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the ewido report scan.
Post the ewido scan results and a new HJT log, add any comments you think will help. We'll see what is left at that point.
Thanks...Phil
Thanks for your speedy response .......
I proceeded very carefully as you requested ....
Unfortunately EWIDO will not start in safe mode on this machine, for some reason ..... so I ran it from normal mode (in safe mode ewido.exe gets 99% cpu but never launches ?)
EWIDO is a trial copy
Here are the results::::

I want to say I am a little concerned that you can not run these programs on the computer? combofix is routine anymore, being used many times a day and ewido runs well on Win2000 in safe mode. You may want to check your system files:
http://www.networkclue.com/os/Windows/commands/sfc.aspx I am not real familiar with Windows 2000. Here is information that may or may not help: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic8356.html
I want you to know this junk came out a lot easier than I expected it to, good job:bigthumb: If all is back to normal, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
Safe surfing...tashi:) will close the topic in a few days.
Thanks...pskelley

If you are reading this information...thank a teacher,
If you are reading it in English...thank a soldier.
OK ....great news, we will put the machine back on-line (comcast.net) and monitor.
Yes, it bothers me that the tools would not run properly on this PC. I will check into this further
This is my friends PC, so I will repost in a couple of days.
Social commentary::::::::
It is sad that people who are not computer literate are those most impacted by these issues. My friend makes comments like:
I shouldn't even have a computer.
I should just get rid of it ....throw it in the trash
He thought he was protected ...........
Running NAV ( just paid the subscription a month ago)
Running SSD ( but didn't know to update it regularly)
I wonder how many people just junk their machines and go out and buy a new one or just give up on computers?
Thanks again

Google has a lot of information for staying safe online. Make sure you assure your friend that they have every right to be there, it is the hackers who exploit who are the lowlifes. These same hackers would be the ones breaking into their homes, they are the ones who need to find themselves behind bars.

:ninja:
Yes there were some system files missing.
The machine has been on-line for 2-3 days now without incident.
Thanks again for your expertise.
