Disable check for program version updates ?

I have Spybot 2.4.40 on my Windows XP PRO SP3 computer .. Today it tells me a new version is available.
But when I go to your website for it (Version 2.7) it says not for XP / Vista .. So why does the program
offer it, if it can not be installed ? ? ? ? ... Can not seem to find an option to "not check for program updates"
Also just what are the benefits of 2.7 over 2.4 and will Definitions for 2.4 continue to be provided ? ? ?

No, I don't believe there is an option not to check for program upgrades. Some of the benefits of Spybot 2.7 are listed on this page:

My guess would be that definition updates will still be offered for Spybot 2.4, though that is just a guess on my part. You could ask Spybot support about that, to know for certain:
