I had a tech support scam pop-up the other night. After closing the browser, I wanted to run Spybot. Spybot advised that there was a newer version so I proceeded to load it. Then I got this message:

13070

\WINDOWS\TEMP\BitDefender Threat Scanner.dmp. A problem has occured in BitDefender Threat Scanner. A file containing error information has been created at C: WINDOWS \ BitDefender Threat Scanner . dmp. You are strongly encouraged to send the file to the developers of the application for further investigation of this error.

Anyway, this message appeared in a box and would not leave my screen. I turned the Win 10 laptop off and it was still there when I restarted. I had to sign into the laptop with this message on top of the sign in box.

I was successful getting rid of it finally, but I'm gun shy about running Spybot now. Any advice?

That error was occurring in a previous version of Spybot at one time, though it's since been fixed in the newer version. I'm not sure why it happened with the new version. This is what the FAQ page says:

If you receiving the following message when shutting down your PC, it is possible that one of Spybot's files has become corrupted and needs to be replaced.
Fix/Solution:

This issue has been resolved in the latest version of Spybot, and several other improvements have been made. You can download Spybot 2.7 from here.

Perhaps it was a one time thing since it happened with the new version, so you might want to try running Spybot again. If the error reoccurs, you could contact Spybot support to ask for help. The contact form is located here at the bottom of the page, under Request Help:

Thanks for the information. I will try running Spybot again in the future and post my results.

I have an essential update which won''t install. This happened a week ago but finally worked-at least the error message and red bar disappeared. This time after many attempts, the error message remains and the update fails to load.

Could you update again and post the error message you're getting here for me? :)
Also, the error you had last week, do you recall if it had anything about sdwelcome.exe in the error message?
