Apparently I violated a rule, as this was deleted from another thread (just trying to consolodate threads, sorry). I'm a new user but long time supporter of Spybot so I appreciate the forums

A Windows Defender cleanup, Ad-Aware SE Personal scan (with no results), and a Spybot scan (with no results) has still left me with a problem.

Please review this and inform me as to the next steps.

While familiarizing myself with the forums, I realized I was running Spybot 1.3. Although I had the latest definitions, I thought it smart to uninstall 1.3 and install 1.4. I did this, ran a scan, and did another hijackthis scan with the hjt exe renamed to shield itself from "hiding spyware".

Below is the updated log, please advise on the next step:

Hi

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/content/view/24/2/)
to your to the root drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click scan for vundo, when it is finished scanning if this file is not listed >
Right click the list box then select add files and add
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddayx.dll

Click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Wait two mimutes then turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Thank you, I will try to be clear with my progress

In VundoFix - I added the file ddayx.dll and ran the scan first, but the log said it could not remove C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\kqppkeiq.dll so it rebooted me and scanned. The log still said that kqppkeiq.dll could not be deleted, So I ran vundofix.exe & clicked "Remove Vundo" but it said it (vundo) was not found.

Then for good measure, I ran the scan again & let it reboot my PC and scan upon reboot. At this point I could not remember the name of ddayx.dll so I didn't add it to the list this time. When it was done scanning it did NOT give me the 'could not delete' error, but said it needed to reboot me again, so it did and then it was done. The log is below, and said it removed the kqppkeiq.dll :)

I was tempted to run it again for ddayx.dll but decided to try and stick to your advice.

One comment, when I added ddayx.dll (first time) and clicked add, nothing happened to confirm it had been added. Maybe this is normal. And it never asked me to shutdown, just reboot, so that is what I did.

Then I ran Hijackthis and got the log which I posted below the vundofix log

Let me know what's next.

Hi

Sounds like you added the file then scanned. you need to run vundofix scan when its finished then add the file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddayx.dll
click ok and yes to the reboot, post its log and another hijackthis log

Thank you,

I followed the instructions:

Ran the scan, then right-clicked/add more files then I added ddayx.dll (there was no "OK" to click) but & it showed up on the vundo screen, so I clicked "remove vundo" but it had to reboot (which I did) to remove the file - which the log says it did.

Below is the vundo log and a new hjt log.

Good job

Disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make. It can be enabled when your clean.
Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Windows Defender icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Windows Defender.

Start Hijackthis and place a check next to these items If there.

Thanks once again for your continued help. I am learning a lot.

I had only enabled the WDFR real time protection recently as an extra safeguard against my current problems. So per your guidance I disabled it, saved the settings, and closed the program. I even logged off and back on to make sure it was closed.

Started HJT & clicked "just start the program". Then I clicked "Scan". All of the items you listed appeared on the scan results, so I checked each of them and clicked "Fix Checked".

Then I restarted my PC and downloaded the 15.74mb jre-1_5_0_09-windows-i586-p.exe so I'd be sure to have it before removing my existing version.

Then went to add/remove programs and uninstalled each of the following:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_05
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_06

Then I ran the .exe that I downloaded to install Java and let it run the the "typical" installation.

Since following the your previous instructions (before the set I am responding to now) I have not experienced the windows antivirus popup which was occurring in Firefox, but especially in IE (along with others in IE). Nor have I noticed any other weird problems.

Will I need to do anything else to 'configure' Java properly? And once we are all done, will it be necessary to run the windows defender real time protection?

Here's the new hjt log

I turn Java auto update off since it usualy doesnt work anyway
Good idea to clear its temp files about twice a month or so
Clear Sunjava"s and turn off auto updater
Windows > control panel > Java click "delete temps" > update tab uncheck its option to update automatically.

Yes turn on windows defender's Real-time Protection, or you could use SpyBots Resident , but dont use both at the same time, More info if needed can be found in SpyBots help file.

Manualy delete these file if present
C:\WINDOWS\system32\iyuqbll.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsy85.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nifmglla.dll

Any other questions or problems ?

I will leave wdfmgr enabled

Ok, I deleted
C:\WINDOWS\system32\iyuqbll.dll
and
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nifmglla.dll

The other .dll was not present.

I cleared the Java Temp files & told it NEVER to auto update, but wouldn't that potentially leave me vulnerable unless I'm manually checking for updates? Can I just leave it monthly? Then if the auto update doesn't work at least it will tell me which will trigger my brain to go get the update. What do you think?

No other problems, no popups etc... Thanks very much!

Only other thing is that ever since I installed Spybot 1.4 when I launch it I get an error that says "The application has failed to start because framedyn.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." But when I click OK spybot opens & runs normally. Would you recommend a re-install of 1.4?

Well just to be extra safe, just after I posted that I ran the spybot sweep, and it detected the following RED entries:

Avenue A, Inc.
MediaPlex
Winsoftware.WinAntiVirusPro2006

They were all just tracking cookies, so I hope that since Spybot removed them I shouldn't have any further troubles.

Still curious about the questions in my above post though.

Thank you

You could check our Java thread for updates occasionaly, or even leave its autoupdate on.

"framedyn.dll was not found"

Copy the contents of the quote box below into a new notepad document (not wordpad). Click file> save as...> call it check.bat > file types *all files*> and save it to desktop.

reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment" /v "path" >tmp.txt
start notepad tmp.txt

Run check.bat and post back with the text that will open

No text was in the tmp.txt file - it was blank

Download and run Bill stewart's fixpath2
http://internet.cybermesa.com/~bstewart/misctools.html
Extract the files to a folder and run FIXPATH.EXE, Now you can delete all the extracted files and fixpath2.zip
Then restart your pc

Let us know if that framedyn.dll error happens again

Well the fixpath / reboot seemed to cure the S&D startup error. I ran another quick S&D scan and it found no problems.

All appears well & I thank you once again for your help.

This all started because I did something I know not to do, so it's my fault (well mine and those scum-sucking, low as pedophile people who make spyware-whom if I ever meet one I will mercilessly crush every one of the bones in their hands so they may never type again).

I've tried to learn a bit from reading through here, and I could have probably done an OK job in fixing most of the problems, but your expertise enabled me to fix all of the threats, increase my security, and eliminate benign problems also.

Think Prevention: Put in place a good hosts file

How To Download and Extract the HOSTS file:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts2.htm
Repeat that proccess about once or twice a month

To help avoid reinfection see "So how did I get infected in the first place?"

Im Glad we could help
Since the problems are solved Im going to close the topic now, this keeps others with similar problems from posting there logs/question here, they should start a new topic.
If you should need to post another log for the same PC let one of us know via a PM (personal message).
