View Full Version : Safer Networking folder in the root of C drive
Spybot seems to be creating a log in the root of my windows drive that reappears every time I boot the computer (or thereabouts) and I can't for the life of me find the setting to turn it off.
C:
---Safer-Networking Ltd
------Spybot 2
---------Spybot Lab.txt
With the contents of that text file being...
[i] 31/10/2020 12:35:28
[i] Parameters: 1
[i] New News Found: False
[-] TestNewNews = false
How do I stop the program recreating this log, if that is what it is?
You could contact team spybot and ask them about the logfile.

Thanks, Zenobia, I have done.

See https://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?77432-SDSpybotLab-exe-Update-News-Popup for some discussion of the Spybot Lab stuff.
If you really want to delete it, the discussion there may help.
The greater question though is why this file is in the Windows root directory, rather than %programdata%. For a company that made a great deal about following Microsoft standards in https://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?77424-Spybot-2-8-Why-is-it-so-hard-to-switch-off-the-Windows-Security-Centre-integration&p=484713&viewfull=1#post484713 the decision to put this file in the Windows root directory is curious, to say the least.
Thanks for the heads up drhughes. I did send in a ticket over a week ago but haven't heard anything back, thankfully I'm not getting popups but it looks like that SDSpybotLab.exe is indeed the culprit but renaming it or deleting it just leads to the updater requesting it be downloaded again :/
