View Full Version : VirusBurst, PestTrap, and Winfixer: [Smitfraud]

Hello. I followed all the instructions on tashi's post about VirustBurst and desktop hijacks that was posted on April 26, 2006; and using those instructions, Spybot-S&D indicated that no problem was found. I noticed that the pop-ups from the tool bar trade were stopped after that.

By the way, my AMD 64-bit desktop computer is running with the MS Windows XP (w/sp2) Media Center.

In that posting, it asked for three logs:
C:\rapport.txt
Ewido log
The HJT log

Since I don't know which of the HJT results to fix, please help to analyze these logs to determine further action is needed. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum, I can't see what SmitfraudFix found but you have the latest version and it appears to have cleaned it all. The ewido scan also cleaned what it found, though you did quarantine one item and I would empty the quarantine folder. That clsid # comes back as this:
http://www.castlecops.com/tk30496-iesplugin_dll.html

You do have this item: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ShowWnd] ShowWnd.exe showing in the HJT log and it may or may not be bad, see the Google: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-16,GGLG:en&q=ShowWnd%2eexe

The balance of the log looks good, you do have an outdated Java program: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02\ <<< out of date
That can get you infected real quick, see this: http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2 so update the program.

How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Use search Companion to locate the file: ShowWnd.exe then use one or more of these free online scanners to determine if it is good or bad.
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html

If you find it is bad, navigate to it and delete it. You may need to do that in Safe Mode:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html

Let me know once this is resolved and I will have valuable information for you to help you stay clean and safe. Post a last HJT log to be sure.

Thanks

tashi
