View Full Version : Problem eradicating DyFuCA.SafeSurf

Hope I'm in the right place for advice - I'm a very first-timer at forums!

I did a search on eradicating DyFuCA.SafeSurf from my system, as Spybot S&D was "unable to remove files associated with this, probably because they are tied to files active in memory" (I'm paraphrashing here ....).

The bottom line is that S&D asks for permission to run at the next re-boot, and after it does take control at re-boot it proceeds to generate countless dialog boxes with an error mesage "The parameter was incorrect". The only way out from here is a hard re-start, and the problem remains ......

I performed the following steps, with results shown:

1) Checked that my installation of Spybot was up to date : Confirmed

2) Ran eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner on-line (I chose this because I am already an up-to-date VET subscriber). I clicked on the "Free Virus Scan" option, and after updating several dll's and other files (presumably ones already installed on my PC) it proceeded to scan ALL of my hard drives: Result was (quote) "No infections found".

3) Re-booted the PC in Safe Mode, ran Spybot S&D, asked to delete the suspect files (same as those found previously), and ended up with the same result i.e. "unable to remove files" etc. Unable to force an automatic execution of S&D along with a boot in Safe Mode, so tried something else .......

4) Downloaded, installed, and ran HijackThis.exe, after installing in C:/ root directory, as suggested. Here is the result of the scan:

G'day and welcome to the forum, If you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, I see this junk on the computer:
http://www.pestpatrol.com/spywarecenter/pest.aspx?id=453077256
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-16,GGLG:en&q=TRGEN%2eDLL

Let's remove it, do some cleaning, and see what happens.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: ohb - {22B720C7-5FA6-40A8-9F8F-8584BF669690} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\TRGEN.DLL
(next two are Alexa related resources wasters. If you use Alexa you can leave them)
O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O19 - User stylesheet: (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Follow the instructions for your Operating System and delete what Windows locates.
http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/faq3.asp?docid=68085

Make sure you restart the computer then post a new HJT log and let me know if that takes care of your problem.

Cheers

Hi pskelly, thanks for your reply.

I've followed your suggested procedure, and arrived back at exactly the same place, so no result.

Here's the new HijackThis log after re-booting and re-running SpyBot:

Appreciate your inspiring comments. I would say you are less a nasty BHO and other junk at the very least.

A problem is that tool to remove junk are not being created for your Operating System anymore, so I am limited in what I can choose.

Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Open Add Remove programs and if DyFuCa is there, uninstall it.

OR try the removal tool in this link, let me know the results:
http://www.spywareremove.com/removeDyFuCA.html

Plenty of information saying it can be removed, I need to locate a tool that is free and will work on your old operating system. Here is the Google, see what you can find if the Uninstall or the removal tool do not work. Let me know what works.

Thanks
