When i try a full scan it scans ok for about 5 hours then seizes at 53% (not responding)

You could try running the system scan with your computer in safe mode, and see if the scan completes that way.

Hi thanks
I have now got it to finish a scan twice after 8 hours each
On both occasions it just crashes when i click repair
In the end i did a full scan with MS defender and removed 8 trojans marked as medium risk but it defeats the object of spybot if you need another program to fix the issues it raises.

I notice in the task manager it show spybot (not responding) 32bit
My system is 64bit, is this something to do with it ?

No, that should not cause any problems because 32-bit programs are almost always backwards compatible on 64-bit computers. I found a page that explains it here:

Sorry about that, I got called away for a bit and didn't get back here until now. :)
I'm glad MS Defender was able to fix the 8 medium risk scan results found.
The next time you scan with Spybot you could try disabling scanning for usage tracks if you'd like to, and see if Spybot might not go into not responding when clicking fix selected next time.
To do so, rightclick Spybot Start Center and select Run As Administrator. If it opens in Overview mode, click Show Details in the lower right corner. Place a checkmark in Advanced User Mode, click Settings, go to the categories tab, somewhere in the window rightclick and select Spyware scan only. That might help, it's worth a try.
