Hi,

I'ved just downloaded and ran the Spybot's S&D in these system hoping that I could get rid of these annoying popups like heavy.com, smashitsusa.com...and some other else. The result states that my system was clean but I still keep on getting these same popups. Spyware Doctor and Norton Antivirus is also running on these one but of no help. Any help from you guys will greatly be appreciated. The following is the Report that I got after I ran Spybot.

Hi,
I'ved done most of the steps that were stated on the link that you've sent me except for " HiJackThis log ". I guess this is what you need, right??? OK..I'll try to do these one and have it on my next post. Thank you for the reply.

1) Run an on-line Anti Virus scan.
Lists four choices for you
Save the log/report at the end of the on-line scan to post in your topic

2) Reboot your computer into SafeMode by doing the following:

3) Open Spybot-S&D while still in safe mode.
Close all browsers, check for problems and fix everything found in red
Repeat until no more items are found in red
I don't need the Spybot log unless I ask for it

4) HiJackThis log

These steps are explained in good detail, if you have questions, please ask them.

Thanks

Thanks for this detailed instructions. I'ved tried running that Panda Activescan. It scanned good at the start but at the last part it will start getting slow until it stops without even finishing, kinda like frozen. It affects the whole computer, everything slows down. I did it for a second time but with the same result. It did detect though some spyware programs on my system but I could not get the log file because like I'ved said it will freeze at the last part .
Anyways, I'll be out of town next week, so I may not be able to try the other online scanners that you've recommended not until I come back the following week. So please if you could be patient enough not to close this thread I would be very thankful.

'til next week....

Hi randee, Once in a while, Panda will not run on a computer, try one of the others. If you can't get another one to run it may be some malware causing that problem, post your HJT log so I can take a look. Enjoy your time away, we will be here when you return. Consider keeping the computer offline as much as possible until we know what we are dealing with...this junk can download other junk depending on the infection.

Thanks...Phil

I don't see a whole lot in the HJT log, but the scan gives a few clues. Let's look a a combofix log to see what it shows, follow the directions.

Thanks to sUBs and anyone who helped with this fix.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stallIf the log is large You might need to post half in one reply half in another.

Please give me more information about your symptoms, if you are receiving popups, where are you being directed to. If there are error messages, give them to me "word or word", please include any other comments you think will help.

Thanks

Hi,
I forgot to mention you that yesterday when I made an update on my resident virus scanner it detect a virus . It prompted me to turn off my system restore and then boot and scan my computer in safe mode and when the virus was found it cleansed it. After that, when I reboot my computer again to normal mode I observed that I was not getting anymore popups. That was ,plus of course, not to mention all those antivirus/spyware program that I'ved ran as what you have told me. "BUT" being as a popup free at the moment, when I ran the Panda Activescan, It still has detected like 5 spyware programs on my system. I don't know if I am totally clean against these annoying programs.
Anyways, here's the log file of combofix that you've told me to run.

Is this a work computer?

randee
2006-10-09, 14:59
No....this is my personal computer. But sometimes I have to bring at work to upload some machine programs so that I can work on it at home. But my daughter also uses it and I guess that's where all of these problems started. So I ended up buying another one for myself so not to compromise things that are work related. This problematic computer right now is solely for home use.
