Seeing if I can get any sort of information here. A little backstory first..

I've been using Spybot S&D for some time, and as such recommend it to most friends/family for their spyware concerns.

Recently my girlfriend had an issue where shortly after running Spybot, her computer began having severe issues with startup, and eventually became completely unusable without a windows reinstall. We thought it was just a fluke and continued on as usual.

Now on a new computer, it happened again. This time her windows would take very long to start up, and no longer able to connect to the internet. Couldn't acquire an IP address. After doing a fresh install and running Spybot again immediately as a check, the same issue occured. As such she stopped using it.

Today I noticed my computer running excessivel slow, so I figured it was the usual culprits. Ran Ad-Aware, found a couple minor things and cleaned it. AVG came up with a clean Virus Scan. Then I ran Spybot S&D. It came up with a number of things but wouldn't properly finish the scan. Kept saying I had aborted it (I had not). When attempting to fix the issues, it also would not do so properly.

Here's where it all ties in together:

Upon rebooting my computer, it took an excessively long period of time to get from the Welcome to an actual usuable desktop. My computer will also no longer connect to the internet or acquire an IP address. I'm currently posting from a laptop I fortunately keep as backup.

Any information at all relating to Spybot or otherwise would be greatly appreciated. Can I no longer run Spybot? Is this a known glitch? Is it something entirely unrelated?

I personally would suspect something other than Spybot that you are doing in common among the systems as the cause of the problem (such as playing the same rootkit Sony CD, etc.). You even indicated that you noticed a slowdown before running Spybot; "Today I noticed my computer running excessivel (sic) slow, ... Then I ran Spybot S&D."

I suggest you consider posting in the Malware Removal (http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22) forum and have someone take a look at your system.

The instructions for running preliminary scans, producing logs and posting in that forum are outlined in the following reference:
BEFORE you POST and Who will advise you. Preliminary Steps!

After completing those steps, start a new thread (topic) in the following forum (making sure to include the HijackThis and online scan logs produced from the instructions above):
